new-to-me 2005 CTD

New to me 2009/2500

Finally traded the hemi in for a 2011 Megacab Diesel. Had an 02 with a diesel before, and traded it for the hemi... ... . what the heck was i thinkin?!?!?

Anyway, looking for suggestion on oil - synthetic or Dyno? What brands are good? Who makes a good filter? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Welcome.

What kind of fuel mileage did you get with the hemi. Towing, empty city and hwy?.
Just curious of some realworld #,s

Welcome back!

Cummins recommends dino but many member use the synthetic.

I use Premium Blue which is a Cummins Formula dino oil.

Use FleetGuard Stratapore filter. Good filtering and good flow.

S. Morris,

My truck was a 2004 crew cab long bed. I had a K&N intake kit on it, along with SuperChips and a custom mandrel bent dual exhaust. Driving back and forth to work (mostly highway), I was getting 16mpg. Towing an 18ft far trailer loaded, I got 10mpg.

Liked the hemi, especially the sound after I put the duals on. But I know this cummins will kill it when I am towing.

I use the same oil and the same filter.

Schucks (O'Reilly) usually has the Valvoline Premium Blue on sale for $9. 99/gal.

I buy the Fleetguard filter at the local Cummins distributor (across the street from where I work), but I get raped there... Filter is like $15.

The chance of a "Warranty declined" issues with Chrysler can be reduced by having the oil changed by the dealer. I know it is pricey, but they see the truck at every oil change. It's there oil and filter in the engine. How can they point the finger at you if they blame the oil or the maintinance. The dealers in N. E. Ohio send out discount service fliers in the mail.

What are dealers charging for an oil change now? I know when i bought mine i asked them to change the oil for me before i drove it back home 500 miles. they said they wouldn't do it because it would cost them too much money.

I change mine for the cost of the filter now as my dad is nice enough to let me use the bulk oil for the cummins motors in our tractors.

I'm here, still have that same old truck , haven't left , does this mean anything ? No, but we're glad to have you back . most will come back if they want a real diesel
