i changed all that front end stuff to "1000. 00" in parts and changed the steering box last . . the steering box was by far the thing that help out 90 percent of the problem and got the dss system and now it drives like a crack-a-lack

NHays,

I read either in the magazine or here on a post about a guy that was experimenting with his truck that would constantly pull and wobble. If I remember correctly he changed the Caster degrees of his right wheel(the one on the side which the truck pulls to) to about 5 degrees which was about 2 to 3 degrees greater than stock and stated that it eliminated his problem, but did not know if that great of a change would create or exasperate any other problems. Does anyone out there remember this article better and in greater detail? Its been a long time ago since I read it and can't remember it all.

OK... ..... Now I have a truck!!!!!!! The PSC steering box is in and OHHHH BOY, what a HUGE difference it makes going from a 4 to 3 turn box. The feel of the steering is extremely responsive, very smooth and takes no effort to steer. I have an 06 GMC that i though had good steering, now my truck have way better steering. I am very pleased with the new steering box. I cannot stress enough how big of a difference this made. If your thinking about do this, or have the money to get the best upgrade ever for these trucks, GET A 3 TURN STEERING BOX. It took me barely an hour to change and now my truck drives better than I ever thought possible. PERIOD!!!!!!!!! Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo. Oo.

Edit was more bouncy things.

have you checked your control arm bushings? just for the heck of it, might want to talk to Don Thuren about his work in progress to hopefully have a permanent fix for the handling of these trucks, one of the reasons he bought a 3rd gen, its his test mule so to speak. I see you already have his trac-bar. . its one hunk of fine steel ingenuity is it not! :D

I have to reply to this statement. I think the Thuren link is the best track bar solution for the stock truck. What I mean is its the best non conversion track bar out there period... . I am very pleased with the construction and durability of my "THUREN Track Bar". As in an Email to Mr. Don Thuren, I will say this again. I would recommend the "Thuren Track Bar" to everyone who is looking for the best. I have not found a better product yet. I will have this mans product on every truck I own.

Sorry, one more

I just want to put a "Thank You" out there to everyone who has helped. TDR is the best investment I have ever made. The people on this register are the most friendly, and by far the most helpful I have ever come in contact with. I hope that I may someday return the favor.

OK. I've scanned this thread 3 or 4 times and I can't find where PSC is defined (who are they?) and how to contact them about one of these steering boxes. Where'd I miss it? (I confess, my eyes aren't as good as they were. Reading glasses are used now!)

Thanks,

repost of earlier post on steering wander

I have have been fighting the wandering issue since I got my 94 2wd in 1999. I tried alot of things, that which appeared worn and even that that did not. I was so close to selling it, but had too much invested too. More money down the hole.

To the point:

First of all I can't speak for the steering box company that these guys talked about but I I know that I tried one from AGR. It was not that great, infact I took it off after a few thousand miles, cuz it wandered as much as the mopar original at 120 some thousand. I dont remember too much about dates and mileage unless I look it up, but it was around Feb 02.

I ended up rebuilding mine with the help of a mopar junkyard owner. He's see and done alot. So I trusted his help. We replaced the output shaft needlebearing with a timken. Reset the preload/specs. Oh, btw the only real way to set preload is to have the box off so all the oil will be out of it. It preload is only in the range of a few inch/lbs. so you can see why it has to be on the bench to do this.

I took the AGR off and put the factory one back on. It was better but not great. Let's face it these Cummins are heavy, so keeping them stable is a chore.

Eventually I found more info off this site for a company that makes a bracket to help stablize the output shaft. This IS where most of the problem is occuring, most likely. If you want to check. Try this, but do it safely, cuz i am not responsible for accidents. ( my internet disclaimer )

You can jack truck up or if you can get underneath w/o doing so ok. Just if you raise the truck, lower it back down on some nice size 8x8's so the weight is back on the front.

with truck engine running, get under, reach up and turn input shaft some. 1/2 turn whatever. View the output shaft. it will move side to side, in excess of . 060 perhaps. If you see this happening this is the start of your troubles.

If you want to try to stablilze this go to

http://www.solidsteel.ca/

You can do what u want. But this, along with a nice set of Firestone regular tread, not the all season tires, helped out the most of every thing I did.

2/1/2007

I think the tires, rancho 9000 shocks, and the kit from solidsteel. ca made the most different ( < 200 us dollars, cheap ). All fixes were made around 2003 and have been in service for about 40,000 miles. Yeah she doesn't get driven too much anymore. But a keeper... . now.

Good luck

The RATIO is wrong on a lot of Rams steering boxes, it took me 7 years to find out. Dodge used the GM steering box made in Saginaw Mich. often referred to as the Saginaw box. It is impossible to tell by looking at the outside of the box what ratio it is. If you can turn your steering wheel 4&1/4 turns stop to stop you have the wrong box. A box that only turns 3 turns stop to stop is the one I changed to and the wandering is cured. Power Steering Services 417-864-6676 is where I got mine and I could not be more satisfied. -- email address removed -- shoot me questions if you wish.

NHays, did you get the 841-M box?

Yes. I got this box. I looked at the 841-MR but I figured I did not need a light valved box. I wonder what would be the difference.

My PSC box came in today. Cant wait to get it installed. . NHays - now you get to update your upgrades on your signature. Hope mine is as successful as your install was. I have done all the upgrades that you did before the box so hopefully this is all I am missing.
