Hope they get it figured out for you 3rd gen guys.

This is not a 3rd gen problem. The MPG problem started with the 600 (2004. 5 model year). I have a 2003 555 HO 3rd gen and I routinely get over 20 MPG (empty & highway of course).

Barry: I assume that this milage was towing? If so, that's about what I get. If it's when empty, your truck needs help.

OK boys and girls, I stopped and filled up last night to check my mileage by hand. I had the truck sloping away from the pump and I "packed" the tank.

It took 30. 535 gallons and I had gone 289. 2 miles for a true of 9. 47 mpg. The computer was reading 9. 2 when I reset it last night.

So now to get an accurate reading you must refuel one more time exactly like that and do the math. Or was it "packed" on the fuel stop prior to this one you metioned?

It was packed tight both times. And, it was towing my 34' 5er with a 20 mph tailwind... ... ... ... . it was however better than the 8. 1 I got going down into a 20 mph headwind... ... ... ... .

Sold the 5er yesterday and am moving into my 40' motorhome with the M11 FOUR HUNDRED HP CUMMINS today... ... ..... If I am going to get less than 10 mpg, I am going to do it is style. Beep Beep!!!!

I usually get in the low 7's in TX. and high 9's in NM from Texico to Albq( E to W or W to E ). Fuel up at Farwell or Muleshoe east bound and within a couple mi of the station fuel mileage drops like a rock.

I think TX fuel sucks.

18mpg in town, 17 @ 75 MT and 8. 5 to high 9's towing in the rockies. East of the rockies 7mpg towing and 16 MT any speed.

18k on the truck.

I think it was posted by Ted Jannetty,if my memory serves

I found the thread that I was thinking about earlier, it was actually Ted Jannetty and an 03 truck but the situation might be similar on the 04. 5's hope this helps some.
