Storm damage

When I first joined this site a little over a year ago I was quite impressed with the way all of you modify and improve these great engines and trucks. I don’t think there is a part on them that someone has not figured out how to get more power, performance or just ease of use out of and I got hooked like the rest of you. A few weeks ago I came across another forum that I wanted to share. Some of you may already be aware of it but for those that are not it is called the Candlepower Forum or CPF. http://www.candlepowerforums.com It uses the same software as the TDR so it is easy to navigate, and is all about, of all things, flashlights. They have sections on incandescent, LEDs, mods, and other categories. These guys are easily as into these lights as we are into our trucks. There is an entire world out there of compact, high-intensity lights that are in a word, amazing. Some are incandescent, some are LED and there are dozens of them. They take stock lights and mod the bulbs, switches, batteries, bodies etc. , to get more power out of them. They add electronic regulation circuits, resistors and all manner of other bombs. For example, take an off-the-shelf 2D Maglight and replace the 2Ds with 6 NiMh AA rechargeables, replace the plastic lens and reflector with glass and textured aluminum so they won’t melt, and you can turn a 15 lumen yellow beam light into a handheld 1200 lumen searchlight! Even stock, the many brands are incredible. Small compact lights that will light up the night. The danger lies in the fact that when we are used to $400 air filters, $700 programmers, and transmissions that cost several thousand dollars among other bombs, the thought of spending $50, $70, or $100 on a flashlight seems like a bargain! I have ordered 3 already and can see about 10 more I’d love to have. As I stated in the heading, I apologize to all of you that will no doubt find it difficult to resist the lure of so much power in such a small package. By the way, I am not at all involved with this site or any of the products; I just thought many of you would like it. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the link, I will have to check that out.

I am currently working on a idea that I have for a small flashlight to be used on handguns. Everything out there is huge and does not work well for concealed applications.

There are a ton of tactical lights and weapon lights out there already, check out Surefire.com for a few of them. Some are actually weapon mounted and others are tactical lights that allow a combined grip and are activated by hand pressure or a tape switch. I am very impressed with the quality of light these things throw.

I rely VERY HEAVILY on the 2D/3D MAG lights and am very frustrated with how LITTLE light they emit. They are tough but I can't see what the heck I'm doing!!!!

I tried the 5D and it be way too bulky to use/carry 'round. It's ain't no brighter. Just heavier.

Greenleaf, you can get much more and brighter light out of a flashlight that will fit in your pocket. It is amazing what these things will do. check out the sight and look around, you'll have a ball.

If I don't stop buying flashlights, I'm not going to have any money left to do my transmission! Somebody please help me. Thank goodness daylights savings has begun and the rains have almost stopped so I can go out and work on my truck again.

Thanks for the link. I am a lighting nut myself!

As for the Maglite flashlights, the best "Off the shelf" one I have found is the rechargable. it is about the same size as the 3-D cell one, but incredibly bright. I have two... one in each of my personal trucks. I will have to check out the site. it is very hard to find a non chinese flashlight these days!

At work I use a Streamlight Stinger model. I abuse the crap out of it. Extremely bright and its the perfect size. Explosion proof. I used to have mag lights. They are trash.
