Given the severe weight restrictions for the MC DRW, I suspect that there would be some serious design problems with making a MC with an 8' bed. I suspect that there is a lot more to it than just making a longer frame. I'm guessing you won't see an 8' bed on a MC till the 4500 / 5500 trucks come out, if ever. Just my opinion on it, so don't shoot the messenger.

Not to be a smar @ss, but wouldn't that be a Quad-Cab with a longbed then??

No, knocking 8" off of the Mega Cab would still make it about 12" longer than the quad cab. I think the Mega Cab is about 20" longer than a Quad cab.

If Dodge can make smaller production cars like the Viper and Crossfire that don't sell nearly as many units, they could certainly make the Long Bed Mega Cab. The problem is the price it would go for if it was in this category.

As far as the frame being too long for the plant, I would think that any creative person could come up with a way to solve that problem that wouldn't require rebuilding the whole plant. It's not rocket science to solve a problem like that, but what do I know?

The QC Longbed is 2 inches longer than a Megacab. Adding a 8 foot bed to the MEGACAB without changing anything else would make the MEGACAB 21 inches longer than it is now... 19 inches longer than the current QC longbed... 9 inches longer than the longest current Ford product.

I would love to have a MC if it had an 8' bed. That's one of the things that disappointed me when I went to my local dealer to check them out last year. I also don't like the woodgrain, and I wish they would offer the MC without it so I wouldn't have to do aftermarket upgrades. I know a lot of people that like it, and it does seem more "fancy" with it. I just don't like it. I love the exta room though. Anyways, just wanted to chime in that I do want to join in the desire for a MC long bed.

Just my own opinion... If you want to brag about having the "biggest" truck, then build the biggest "Truck" and that means an 8 foot bed. If they have limits on length, whether it be with tooling, factory layout or patent rights, the last place they should have taken from is the bed. Put whatever slider you want on your fifth-wheel hitch... you still can't fit a 4x8 sheet of plywood into a 6'3" bed. Ok, I'll step off the podium now and start saving money for the 8' bed wearing Quad Cab 3500/4500 or whatever they eventually call it...

With the new baby on the way I would not even consider a mega cab if you live in a area thats gets over 95 degrees in the summer. You would need to put the kid in the rear seat away from the air bags. The New dodge mega cabs do not have enough cooling to even keep the front passengers cool let lone having to be in the back. The rest of the Truck is a very nice truck but the A/C units are a joke. When you have to consider having to have passengers in the back seat you will need to buy a ford or a chevy. To bad dodge wasted so much money and engineering on the great mega cab with the roomiest back seat and even tilting rear seats. Because in the summer in Arizona no one wants to ride in the back seat and for that matter no one really wants to ride in the front seat, If they could be riding in a ford or chevy with A/C.

Its interesting that the cummins doesnt even know the compressor is on so its not a power issue, its that they were too cheap to put in a decent size airbox and blower... shame DC

I hadn't heard about this issue before. Makes me re-consider the whole Mega Cab thing. I hate products that are great ideas but poorly engineered. What a disappointment.

Not sure what MegaCab you've been in. This past summer it's always well over 100* where I live in So Cal. Plus we're in Havasu every weekend. Constantly see 100*+. I have 19month old son and a MegaCab. Don't think twice about putting him back there. The cab cools off plenty fast. Yea, it doesn't blow as cold as a Ford right off the bat. But the entire cab is cool in no time. Never once did it ever cross my mind about cooling down to quick. Infact in the car seat he's usually got a blanket over his feet because of the rear vent blows directly at him. Not one complaint here about how the MegaCab cools down.

I have 2 diaper fillers in the back of my Mega Cab. I have no worries about them. I think the a/c system is weak, but not to the point of worrying about a child's health in the back seat.

I wrote an email to Dr. Z. regarding the a/c issue (mine is weak). Haven't heard back yet. Go figure.
