I beat a duramax on a test drive...

I was heading east on I44 in Mo. monday, I had a sixteen foot trailer loaded with ABOUT 4000lbs of oak(trailer weight included). I was coming around a long bend on the road and I saw a crew cab duramax turning down the onramp. as I got closer I signaled and got over to alllow him on the highway. as he entered the highway I could see he was in it, from the black cloud coming from his tailpipe (yes it was smoking, take that as you will). he hit the highway at 75MPH and right beside me. I couldnt have timed it better :D he looked over at me and then back down at his guages. I heard him get in it, so I decided to throw down with him.

keep in mind, I have a loaded trailer behind me, and all he has, is his wife and salesman with him. we were headed up a small incline, and I romped it in response to him. I am running "Scotty style" right now. that turbo spun up to 35PSI right at his drivers door as we started to leave him, the last thing I could see was him checking his guages again as I showed him the back side of my load @ 90MPH. :D

he never had a chance.

I'll bet that guy went right over and took a drive in a ctd, then said I sware that dura### felt faster. Then took a look at the price difference. Then went back to the chevy dealer to get a REAL CREW CAB. Man chrysler is not smart. I can't believe how many people I talk to that bough other brands and wanted a ctd because no crew cab. NOT SMART chrysler.

Great job on showing what a real motor is!!!!:)

That sure is sweet... . I bet you pissed that salesman off something fierce. By the way, ignore my signature... . I am one of the knotheads that fell for the 4 doors but I am in the process of buying another Ram... . 2 extra doors just doesn't make it a real truck.

Priceless moments....

I bet the salesman had just quoted him all the "stats" on the new engine and how it could out run any diesel pick-up on the planet :D :D Good work!

Oh Yeah!!

It's a shame that little 6 cyl. whooped that big bad V-8;) . I also hope D. C. gets its head out of the sand and makes a real crew-cab. Also hope it's more than a rumor about the Allison auto and the 4500-5500's. Phord needs some competition up there. Sick of seeing only pooperduty's above 1 ton:mad: . Doug

Good post Todd !!!! Salesman probably said something like ' Yeah, but that Oak he's hauling is seasoned and very light' :D

Speaking as an ex GM salesman you made the sale fall flat on it's face !!, I remember information we recived about the " durawax " diesel , GM was bragging about a strong selling point for us to use about the engine " It will last up to 200000 mi. WoW !!

Yes ,I forgot to mention I drove a 90' dodge Cummins then with 175000 mi , it ran like new when I sold it for my 2000' The new chebe's are junk !!

Some guys

Yeah my neighbor just bought a new chevy dura?. Said he test drove all three, empty and thought the chev. had the most power  . Of course put a little weight on them and we know which one comes out on top;) :) . I tried to sway him in the right direction ,but like I said some guy you just can't reach. Doug P. S. He paid 38,000 for a plain reg. cab with very few options. I got about the same model (S. T. Dodge) for 27,000

I have said it long before the Duramax was ever released, it is good for drag racing. The Duramax thrives in the first three gears of the mighty Allison. The Allison makes up for what the Duramax cannot do with raw diesel power.

I find it hard to believe that your truck pulling a load of almost 5000lbs, including a trailer with 4000lbs of wood on it, beat him. That truck unloaded is very quick, I have read on this site of someone with their CTD that got beat by one in a race and he was not stock. From what I have learned on this site loaded you would beat him but not unloaded.

Campo, look at his modifications, he is obviously making some serious power. The little encounter they had was not from a dead stop either.

I have no doubt that the loaded Cummins ( really not much of a load) beat the empty Duramax. The Duramax likes to downshift and rev to make power. The Cummins is pure snort.
