When I installed my Banks Big Hoss last winter, for some reason I was limited to 90MPH. I found a post the other day that said to cut the white wire with a orange tracer above the fuel filter. I cut it today and abracadbra no more limit. I then checked the codes and 1693 came up. I cleared that one a long time ago and know it's not a deadly code (like 216!) but I'd like to know if anyone thinks I may have problems with this wire cut. My speedo and tach still works fine too.

Thanks in advance, John

I've had my 01 pass 120 and keep going,,,,,, bad thing was an 03 3500 quad dually with banks 6 gun and speed loader went by me like i was sitting still

I ran mine at 112 for a bit. I probably could have hit the 120 ish mark, but I didn't feel like holding it at redline for any period of time.

I havn't had the cruise on yet but I'm gonna try it today. I managed to hit 122MPH going down a little hill. Man that is fast for a pickup, too fast for me. I wanted to get my top end back just in case a ricer wanted to go! It should be even more impressive when I get my 275's in... they should be in the mail now.

This wire also works in conjunction with your grid heaters. If you leave it cut when it is cold outside your heaters will not cycle off as designed due to them not receiving info from the PCM. I used a switch so that I could disable the speed limiter when needed and also have the heaters work correctly.

I have a question my truck feels like it cuts off too at a certain speed and my friend with banks and comp does not it feels like truck just shuts down at certain speed with everything i have should it do that if the RAD is on street setting will that bypass it it sucks when dually with 22. 5's and only dd2's and hx40 can blow by you what should I do

If the big hoss works like the (auto mine) it will de-fuel at 1250 deg. My limit was 88mph so I thought i would just live with it. Six month later my limit dropped to about 80. sent it back to banks and they told me it was fine. (SURE IT IS!) Then it got even better, down to 72+- and it was like turning off the key until you let off the throttle then in would kick back in. Well I took care of the problem, TRASHED IT! . As far as the 1250 degrees goes, that would be a good safety feature if it worked. I never got to the 1250 degrees.

Disconnect the big hoss and see if you still have the limit. I would be willing to bet you don't

We were just talking about this today at the local gathering. Oddly enough it seems as though some trucks have had it, some didn't. I am not sure if it was certain years, or models. Mine was one of the trucks that did have a top end limiter. It was an 01. 5 auto truck.

90 mph is way below the speed limiter set on our trucks... ... So you are correct in saying that something else is/was going on. I would assume it has something to do with the Banks products installed but without knowing exactly what was bombed I am not certain. In any event the grid heaters do not work properly with the wire cut.

Cruise still works, but the grid heaters don't. I put a voltmeter on my battery and it read 13. 05V with the key off. When I cycled the heaters before a start, it only dropped to 12. 97V. There's no way they were working with that little voltage drop. The engine was hot when I did this test so I'm gonna re-do it when she has been shut off all night.

NSX, I do have the 1250F defuel but that wasn't the problem with the speed. At 90MPH EGT's were only around 1100F and I even tried it down hill to be sure with EGT's down around 700F . Now with the wire cut it will hit 1250 around 100MPH but it keeps going, It does feel like it's holding back a bit but it fuels as much as it can to maintain 1250F. I called Banks support and spoke to a few different people there and they told me that on some 2001 models not all a 90MPH speed limiter was activated somehow but they didn't know haw to remove it.

mine is a 01. 5 and has as well any way to get rid of sorry I missed gathering yesterday truck is getting a new vp44 was supposed to be done friday but buddy at dodge was busy and didnt get to it but I guess I cant complain when it got slid through warranty with all I got done its nice to have friends at dealer

I have a 2002 with the banks big hoss, the kind that taps the pump wire and I can easily go over 100mph, It would go faster, just never pushed it any harder than that.

On some cars and trucks you can turn the key back from the run position just a bit and the speed limiter turns off ( so do the rest of the gauges). But it gets rid of the cutout. I dunno if it works on the cummins, mine redlines at 111, I need bigger tires. :)

Still like to know why yours went only 90mph, stock mine went faster than that, and with the upgrades I have I have no issues with speed. I have never heard of such a thing with a '01 6spd truck.
