Throw'er in 'R'...

Sorry to back-up on yee fellers, but Jarsong, why or what do you mean when you call the 6. 0L, "the 6. 0-no?"

BTW - I agree with everybody on this topic. I walk on eggshells over there. I'd like to be able to offer them some help. But I'm not sure there is much hope for the 6. 0L. Hehehe. Poor saps.

I have never been to the diesel stop website before now, I must say, that a few of them there do have some reality problems. Something about being happy with a engine that leaks oil from the main seal after repeated replacement leaves me wondering what kind of judge of product quality one could be.

I will give cab and chassis design to ford, as I have had lots of things rattle loose on my dodge as compared to my 2000 ford powerjoke, but in the end, I have yet to be left stranded with my dodge. My powerstroke was dropping crank sensors right at 45,000 to 48,000 miles nearly religiously. I had two turbo failures as well as o ring seals under the the turbo blow out, what a mess that was.

I have had problems with my dodge, as is expected with just about anything, but I doubt anyone here would act as was metioned about the other forum.

By the way, temp gauge pegging up and down, ABS fuses blowing weekly, heater controls going out alot, amp spike from alternator in the cold blowing headlights out. Those are a few of my dodge issues. None have left me stranded, mostly just irritated and wishing Ford had the cummins option, or I had time to repower another one to my needs.

Overheard on The Diesel Stop:

"Ford is the Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Overheard on The Turbo Diesel Register:

"Cummins is the Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Well Cummins rule then, cause there are more exclamation points behind "... Best" :)

No laughing matter

And what a defensive testy bunch of battered truck owners over there.

Battered Truck Syndrome (BTS) is no laughing matter, Rogue Ram. In fact, many of the drivers who suffer from BTS are really victims who have come to believe it is really their fault, and not the fault of their truck. Sure, it's easy to ask why they didn't leave after the first problem, but in a lot of these situations the owners actually believe that they can change their truck. By the time they realize how serious the matter is their self-esteem is shot and they are left wondering what they did to cause their truck to react like this. In the most severe cases owners will begin to feel that they are doing something wrong if their truck isn't having problems.

Still, others try to placate the truck by changing the oil every week or washing the truck every day. It's a no-win situation for all involved--the truck, the owner and even the owner's friends who get dumped on when the owner feels like he has to vent. And don't forget the shame, which is probably the main reason they are so defensive about their trucks.

I've seen this so many times I feel I should write a book on the subject. Part of it is denial; When you point out the faults in their truck they have two choices: One is to face the facts, but that requires that action follows. The other is to deny the problem to avoid having admit that something has to be done and blame the messenger. The solution is counseling--counseling, counseling, more counseling and then finally the purchase of a Dodge-Cummins. Sometimes an intervention is necessary, but more often than not this can be dealt with at the family level, provided there is strong support from the wives.

That is great Crunch! Like the Stockholm Syndrome, the victim actually falls in love with their captor, or in this case, their money and time robbing truck!

I know a guy that has a new 6. 0 that hasn't had any problems so far but I haven't talked to him lately. I hope they aren't all having problems as bad as is talked about here. I wouldn't wish problems with a 40K truck on anyone. If the problems are really that bad, they should fire that engineer. The Fords I've drove have all been 7. 3's and nice trucks, but I wouldn't trade my dodge for 3 Fords, this truck is a horse! Especially since I put the edge box on it.

Bottom line is we have a truck that if there is a problem we can fix it. If we post we have a problem , members try to help us find the cure. ... ..... The other guys, well if they have a problem... they are just the proud owner of another problem truck and nobody wants to hear about it.

Three cheers for the members of the TDR and the "fixable" "upgradable " reliable Cummins. :D

I love how ford has to come up with a new engine to meet emissions, and Cummins just finesses the old 5. 9 a little more. All of this to the delight of us all that worship the Cummins 5. 9. I have owned both a straight 7. 3 and the powerstroke version. the old 7. 3 ran forever. The powerchoke ate glowplugs, glowplug controlers, smoked like a steam engine when cold, and that was with good glow plugs. My 95 sits out in Erie PA cold, 9+ hours without the block heater pluged in at work. Hit the heaters and she fires right up, by the second cycle of the heaters she is running on all 6 and ready to go. Powerstroke this Ford Boys! Cheers Mike :)

This guy who I chat with at the local pub has talked his truck up for years. He had a pretty good running truck. Good looking two tone paintjob too. Now mine with less hp is still putting along he just dropped a turbo and 3 injectors. Not saying mines been trouble free but my truck has been pretty friggin reliable. Maybe I should warn people what happens when you consistently put down other peoples rigs. I could tell you about some artic cat guys. LOL. Poor saps. He also has a bad runnin PSD. Badmouthed the cummins for years. Hes looking to replace the engine out of his own pocket cause they cant fix it. I wonder if its contagious.

My trucks treat me pretty good but I dont put down other peoples rides.

Another member of the pub had his cummins crap out an injection pump last summer. I never heard him do no badmouthin. Good guy. I felt bad for him. He paid suggested retail on that bad daddy. First truck he ever bought new and hes pushin 50. ! month later his volvo penta took a dump on him in his ausprey. Guess he had a run of bad luck. I offered to pay for the labor to replace the engine on the boat for a guided trip but he refused. Hes retired and on a fixed income. I guess you win some and lose some. Sometimes even the good guys get the short end.
