:D Hey All,

I have spent most my adult life as an aircraft mech, which kinda burnt me out when it comes to wrench turning during my off time. For the past few years I have let the auto mech do the maintenance on my trucks. After getting the quotes on the basic Oil, Diff and Tran Oil changes for my new 3500 I decided to do my own. Today I changed the Lube oil on my Diff, Mobil 1 syn 75W-90 it took 4 1/2 QTS. I took the advice of some of our TDR members and completely removed the Diff cover and inspected the gears, everything looked great.

My final torque on the cover bolts was 18 foot lbs. I'm glad I read the different threads on this subject. The factory recommended torque of 30 foot lbs would have been to much, I have TQed enough flight controls to have a good feel for what is the correct TQ. Tomorrow I will be changing the Oil and fuel filter. Saved over $250. :)

Thanks for all the great info, it was a big help. Simple things like finding out that the gasket was reusable, etc...

Good going Mike -

What better time spent than bonding with your new ride on a beautiful spring day? A cold soda and the feel of lube oil dripping down your arm makes it even better. Knowing you saved a boatload of $$ completes the deal!

I am almost excited to change my transmission fluid next week!

Best -

Steve
