Okay guys as you know from my sig i have my 24V and i love this truck, its just a ST truck but its my baby and i work it when i need to do something and i run it like a regular truck, I mean i don't run it hard, balls to the wall but it gets ran.

Well on Monday the 28th after 7 1/2 yrs of searching i finally found what i initially was searching for, its a 1992 lwb 12V W250 with 5 speed transmission. has power everything and cruise to boot, i bought it as a second work truck for the farm, it was something i just couldn't pass up, i was surpised when i got down there and saw power windows, locks, cruise etc, as the ad didn't say anything about it, and with 96000 miles on it she is a horse. I just had to let you guys know as i am so proud of the 2000 and now the 92 which sits beside her, my babies for sure.

Did i go to the dark side well if some want to call it that but i didn't do it because i like the 12V over the 24V I did it due to the rarity of this model and that was my first initial want as a truck and its paid for, the 2000 well lets say i will never do a lease again, im a firm believer in learning from my mistakes yes i did it and im paying for it but with the cummins its well worth its weight in gold for farming.

Thanks GK, I was afraid i might get beat up LOL, nah actually the 1st and 2nd gen trucks are what i like, don't get me wrong the 3rd gens are nice but just to darn quiet for me and yeah i know its the darn epa and emmissions laws... .

You have come a long way compaired to most

Making payments sucks I say. Until It paid for Its not yours. After I got out of the Army and bought my first car on payments. I made a payment every week for 36 weeks and paid the car off. Now I was to make 36 payments one every month but I could not stand that. I have not had a car payments since and never will have one. I have two Dodge Diesel's and one Is a 12 valve and the other Is a 24 Valve. I like my 12 valve the best. It music to my ears. My 2004 sounds crappy to me. My buddy has this airplane In his front yard. I think It looks neat. The county drop his taxes because they say It makes his place look like a dump. He got a permit to put a airplane on his property.

thats a sweet plane, i like it. . yeah on the 24V lets say im stuck with a few more payments but the 12V is paid for, but we all do silly things but im one of the pple that learns by their mistakes, a Lease will never never!!! happen again

Kenneth,

A different exhaust and a big turbo will change the sound of the 3rd gen. The exhaust sounds just like my 12V's now. :D

WyattEarp,

Way to go. Sounds like you got a nice deal. I, too, would like to find a nice 1st gen. It would fit nicely with my collection. :D Just too many other projects right now. (This is starting to sound like a BOMBers Anonymous meeting. ) :D

If you don't mind me asking, what did you have to pay for your new to you 12v. I am looking for one like that for my boy.

JR2

1st gen

Congrats on your new purchase. I too just came across the truck I've been looking for after buying my 3rd gen. Needless to say the 3rd gen is up for sale and am looking forward to getting rid of the payments. The 3rd gen is a nice truck and if I could afford to keep both I would, but the 1st gen will do eveything the 3rd gen will, albeit without the creature comforts and the additional HP the 3rd gen offers.

I hope you enjoy your 1st gen as much as I am enjoying mine. Trying to find as much reading material as I can on the 1st gen and reviewing old posts regarding the truck.

Good luck

Ron

JR2 i paid 6000. 00 cash for mine, the guy knocked a thousand off for that, the kid that owned it bought it from the originial owner whom works for his dad, the kid 20yr old, started a metal roofing business and bought the truck to pull a 3 axle 30ft trailer for the metal he was using, the truck body is a little rough and the outside moulding and interior(headliner) is missing but the kid got a job offer starting out at over 40K with a roofing company that was wanting to venture in to this commercial metal roofing, so at 20 he is a supervisor and his dad told us monday he has put a ring on a finger also, so needless to say the truck was much needed by him to be sold and i just happen to luck out on this deal, the ad said nothing about cruise, or power anything... Well it has cruse, power mirrors(don't work i have to check that) door lock, windows, sliding back glass and came with a reese hitch insert with ball, diamond plate deezee tool box and one very nice cd player... so yeah i lucked out on this deal for sure.

My guess is the kid was planning on redoing the truck and then got this job offer and well he had sanded the truck down so him and a friend did a shadetree silver paint job, actually its not bad. . Im planning on a future original paint job back on it which was the blue metalic as best i can tell from the inside paint.

Hey Wyatt. Dont worry about liking the 1st gen over the 24Vr. You will. I flew from NorCal to Chicago to get mine and drove it home. It was not abused but was owned by folks who knew not what they had. It was stone stock and needed some TLC. I put on a hx40 I bought for the 01 but didnt work to well. I put PDRs 16 cm housing, turned up the pump a bit and made my own SS exhaust. Love it. :D

Sounds like she'll be a great work truck.

Nothing wrong with a solid 1st Gen... ..... I'm looking for one myself.

1st gen

I had a 1st Gen, 72k miles auto 4x4. sold it for $7800 after having it 6 months. made a few $ on it, but that thing was stiff and more uncomfortable than sitting in one of those desks like I was in elementary school. I liked it, but for 5k more I got a 2001 HO 6spd , quad with 122k. This one has twice the power (after a chip) and it stops in less than 1/4 mile.

I have a deep appreciation for some of the older vehicles and know they can be fixed up nice, but comfort, power, safety and in most cases reliability have come a looooooonnnnnnggggggg way!
