Hi People!!
I just bought a truck (yesterday). It is a '96 ram 2500 club cab with a CTD, auto, 2wd, ps,pb,pw,pl,power mirrors(in and out too),power seat, towing package, air bags, pillar gauges,a/c, and an infinity sound system. It has 132k miles on it. The previous owner claims to have gotten 27 mpg, but I doubt that much. I picked it up in Ironwood, Michigan for $12995. The truck had a 1/4 tank of fuel when I got it and I headed west to go home and the low fuel light didn't even come on until I was in Superior, Wisc. a distance of about 100 miles. I was quite impressed. Since this truck has pillar gauges on it, I was wondering if anybody could tell me if there is any way to tell if this truck has been bombed at all. I saw a maximum boost of 25 lbs. and pyro temp of 900 deg. Of course this was empty so I was not able to work it to see what it could really do. The truck is in good shape - not all beat to snot and seems tight in the suspension and cab too. EVEN MY WIFE LIKES THIS TRUCK!!!!!

Tom, congratulations on your new truck and welcome to the TDR #ad
. My dad drives a '96, pulls a 28' 5th wheel camper. Just loves it and has had very few problems with it (lift pump only). Can't help you much with the BOMBing question, but there are some guys here and on the 12 Valve forums who can. Enjoy!

Tom, congrats on your new steed! The easiest way to see if your truck has been "messed with" is this: 1. open hood 2. stand on driver's side and look at injection pump 3. under the metal injector lines, (all lined up) is a rectangular lump that's screwed down by its 4 corners. Inspect those 4 screws, especially the one in the upper left corner... if THAT one is slotted, or a hex-head bolt, then someone's been sleeping in GoldieLock's bed!

BCFAST is right about the four screws holding down the AFC. The upper left screw that he mentioned comes from the factory as a break-off screw. My friend just bought a truck similar to yours. He thought that something had been sone to it (it runs to good to be stock), so I did a little inspection of the pump and injector lines. Someone has been in the pump on his truck, but replaced the breakoff screw with another (new) breakoff screw. Point is, just because there's a breakoff screw still there doesn't mean that the pump hasn't been tampered with. Inspect the paint on all the screws very well. Also check if the AFC housing (this is the housing which is held down by the four screws mentioned above) has been repositioned (mainly slid forward). Also check injector lines to see if a wrench has been on them. Does it smoke?

TomC, Congrats on the new truck.

also look for the paint on the bolts. If the bolts have been removed the paint will most likely be chipped.

BCFAST; the screw on yours is slotted because I did not want to put another break off screw in (the new break off screw is in the box with the old plate parts) and I did not have a regular bolt to put back in it at the time. sorry #ad

PS: I did think about repainting the bolts though #ad
