First and foremost, I do NOT want this to become a political thread, that's why we have the political forum. Now on with my story... ...

President Bush is coming to Poplar Bluff tomorrow for a speech/ campaign rally. That's right, my little corner of hell, and I got tickets to go. There has never been a president or even a presidential CANDIDATE visit this little town, and the current Commader in Chief is coming here. I can only imagine how traffic and security are going to be. Fortunately, I'm not planning on taking my pickup- cross bed toolbox, two regular toolboxes (about 100# each), in an old beater; big security risk.

Needless to say, I am kind of excited. Giddy even. Putting aside his politics and policies, he IS a cowboy; or the closest thing to one we'll ever get in the White House.

As far as I'm concerned it is another sad addition to this corner of hell. I wouldn't go see that idiot if he was coming here to Jackson and it's only 1 mile. I hope he meets up to your expectations, ropes a few steers, steps in some more crap and goes back to the ranch. it would be different if he was bringing some decent jobs with him.

When I was a pup in WA, Bush 1 came to our piddly little logging town. It was cool to see the president even if you didn't like him. It was weird seeing snipers on the buildings at the mill.

Back in about '95 when I was living in Duluth, MN. , President Clinton was in town so I went to go see him. Not that I was a Clinton supporter, but I just wanted to see the President of the United States in person; regardless of political party. Just my . 02.

Having worked at a high profile FBO in Denver for over 20 years, I've had the opportunity to see Pres. Regan, Bush Sr, and Clinton. The Pope was also at the airport with Clinton. I also have a personallly autographed photo of Pres Ford that I took of him in Grand Rapids MI. When I was a little kid, I always wondered if I would ever be able to see the President of the US.

When Hurricane Floyd came

In '99 when Hurricane Floyd came along with all of the associated flooding, then-President Clinton flew over my house at about 200' in a 5-blackhawk mid-air convoy. Plenty low enough to feel the turbulent air peeling off of the rotors and stir the leaves on the trees. Local news coverage showed him stepping off of Air Force 1 and stepping aboard one of the Blackhawks. They headed east on the TV feed. About 30 minutes later they flew over the house. Though he was not my president of choice, it was still pretty cool to see that.

I went to the farm progress show on Tuesday and listened to him talk for a little bit. There were a few protestors right off the interstate. Some lady handed me a piece of paper where you go in to pay admission downing Bush. I kindly said thank you, crumpled it up, and threw it in the trash.

BTW, The Farm Progress Show Kicked @$$. I always enjoy when it comes to Iowa, as it's only two and a half hours away. Well worth the drive this year.

Its been interesting to watch the news reports on this. Poplar Bluff has a population of 18,000. First report was that it was the largest crowd ever to see Bush. This mornings report was 26,000 people. At noon it was up to 30,000 people. At supper time it was 32,000 people and they showed the mayor stating the people threw so much trash on the ground that the city is expecting to spend $45,000 to clean it up. They are raking up trash and scooping it up with backhoes. I was taught if you had trash, you throw it in a wastecan. If there wasn't a wastecan, you put it in your pocket and threw the trash away at home. What kind of people does Bush attract?
