How about this today, I was involved in two hit-and-run accidents. One in the parking lot of a shoping center. I leave my truck in one peace, away from all the other cars, and go inside to buy some food. When I return, my right rear running board was ripped off, along with part of my bed! Of course, no insurance information, or name associated with my new modification.

So, I get home and weld the sheet metal back together, straighten up with some Bondo, and prime the panel. OK, at least I know the diamond-plate did some good damage to what ever hit me.

After fixing everything, my Mother needed me to go and pick something up for her. So upon leaving my driveway with a recently patched up truck, I drive only three blocks from my house only to be rear ended by some guy in brand new BMW 5-Series. Of course, he was talking on the phone and eating at the same time.

The good news, anyone who knows my truck has seen the home-made pintle hitch hanging off the back, which is my "rearend insurance". The only damage to my truck this time was some good new German black paint aiding in stopping rust from forming on the hitch. The hood and gril were trashed on his car.

So ok, I hit my turn-signal to pull into the local Sunoco station, thinking he would follow, but no, he flys off. I personally do not care, like I said, this one caused no damage to my truck, but his car was messed up pretty bad.

I know he felt the hit, it pushed my truck forward about 6". I guess that is what happens when you are trying to make a left turn and not cutting off into oncomming traffic.

To make matters worse, I have had an Exchange server go offline at work Sunday night. It was my welcome home gift afterging to Muncie this year Oo. . A power dip (480v turned into around 40v for about 5 min. Run this through a step down transformer, and you have a little less than 10v at the wall. Not good for servers, but enough of a variance to make UPSs and Generators act very funny) took out a Raid-Array of Ultra-Wide SCSI drives. All the data is still there, I just can not access the drive array from the OS. I personally think a memory pointer is now goofy, but dropping power off a SCSI drive with out sutting in down first can cause them to go dead. I hope to have the system back up by Fri, but it is still too early to tell. Loosing a week of e-mail can be very bad, but what can you do. If the company you work for continually forces you to work on a thinner budget, you have to trim the fat somewhere. Can you say "Good By" to disaster recovery. I have somewher around 500 employees bothering me every 5 min. for their junk e-mail that contains nothing useful, but viruses. Even better, distracting me and my fellow IT employees from fixing the problem.

Sorry for ranting but it has been a very long day/week.

rkressg,

sorry about your day dude. You should have chased the mutherfletcher down and make him stop. At least get his license # and report it to your insurance co. If he got your license # he could tell his insurance co that he saw a pickup truck leaving the/ any parking lot after he heard a crunch and saw his car move. You could be in trouble for leaving the seen of an accident and have to pay for his damages and have to go to court. He has all the evidence he needs. black paint on your hitch and damage to the front of his car... ... ... ...

I am not trying to scare you but call your insurance co and the local police and report it before he does.

remember this in everything you do... ...

CYA

cover your backside!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

best regards

About 10 years ago I was driving down a busy street in Los Angeles at night, and with no warning from out of a sidestreet, an LAPD Cruiser came barrelling through a stop sign, with just his lights on, and so I slammed on my brakes and came to a stop while he went through the intersection. However the Ford full of Mexican gang-bangers behind me evidently didn't see him or me.

I was driving my old '54 Chevy 3/4 ton, which had a custom steel tread-plate rear bumper with an extended home-made hitch of 1/2 inch steel! It stuck out about 10 inches off the back bumper. So the Mexican's slammed into me. Didn't hurt me at all, and I knew my back bumper would hold up. The guy driving backed the Ford up and tore off around me, so I gave chase. I caught up with him about a mile later at a stop light and even though I was ****** that he ran, I couldn't help but laughing at him. His grill was broken and pushed in along with one headlight and his bumper was screwed up. I just laughed at him and asked if he was OK. The Mexican's pretended like they didn't know what I was talking about, but they all looked nervous. The only damage to my truck was scratched black paint on the hitch and bumper!

Diesel Dan,

I wanted to chace the guy down, but after pulling off to the gas station, I could not get back out into traffic. I figured by the time I got back out, he would be long gone, and anyways, this person did no damage to me.

I just hope he does not reverse the role on me.

Also, I would post an image of my hitch, but I do not have a camera right now. I guess that is something I need to go and buy. My hitch is made from 1/2" plate with various level holes drilled in it to allow for adjustable pintle height. All the reinforcing is also made out of 1/2" to ensure that it will not break with 12,000 lbs behind. The whole contraption sticks out atleast 1' behind my bumper. The pintle attachment is a standard 4-bolt Putman (sp?) pintle with a 12,000lb limit.

I would recomend callin the local PD and your insurance CO and telling them about that.

I've had more than 1 friend not call the police bout an accident they didnt think was a big deal only to be visited by 2 police officers later. Turnes out the guy who side swiped his beater called the cops and insurance told em he was the victim. Since my friend never called up to file a report about it he got screwed and had to pay.

Good Luck and if you can post some pictures of that hitch.
