but the new amsoil filters (both of them). today it was brought to my attention that they are letting dust in the filter intake tube, one customer had one on his truck for 10k and mine had about 20k both had dust in the intake tract, amsoil recommends once a year or 25k filter cleaning and i figured i would do that. well my customer just daily drives his truck so there is no excuse for that. maybe they need to be cleaned every 8-10k or so. this is very important for those that just bought new filters, thanks

I was about to buy one of the new technology dry (no oil) filters. I haven't yet. Are these the ones you're referring to? If so, what gives? :--) I thought these were supposed to be the ticket! Guess I'll stick with my stock Fleetguard for another year! Oo. CKruse

JEEZE - I hope that isn't also the case for the new oil filters Amsoil is distributing as well - I recently bought 2 of them from Wayne as a test against the Fleetguard ones - plan to change oil for analysis, and all filters when we return from our 2000 mile RV trip south, and that's when I plan to install the ones from Amsoil for the same test...

Well,my "Drop-in" amsoil Nano-Fiber has been only about 7,000 miles, and I looked at the inside of my filter baox and there is NO evidense aof dust at all.

the only thing i can think of is its got to be harder on the filter when you have a ton of power, also it was hard to see the dust, but it was there only in one corner on both filters.

Could Amsoil EVER have a problem in your eyes Wayne?? You are a saleman right... :p

I was hesistant about these new dry technology filters at first for another reason... a vacuum will clean them??? Your telling me that a vacuum will pull the "oily" soot from the fibers?? <riiiiiiiiiight!> Or that using 20 PSI of air to blow one out doesn't rearrange the fibers or even potentially blow a hole through <damage> them???? And that you actually get all the dirt out... ?

Now seeing that there is a "potential" for dirt getting past them, not including Wayne's superior 7k test... :D

Sorry Wayne, just had to poke a little today... . :-laf

Is it getting by the seal? Maybe try putting some of K&Ns air filter sealing grease around the outside seal. I have one of the Nano filters that fits in the stock airbox on my 06 Quadcab which now has over 35,000 miles on it, and I haven't seen any dust in the Intake. This truck is pretty much stock, so it might not be pulling as much air through the filter as your customers truck. I think a good test would be to put a stock filter back in his truck let him run it for awhile ,and see how much dust the stock filter lets through.

You can't blame a man for standing by his product. ;) Amsoil may be having a production problem. Every company does at one time or another. Or it maybe that some people are to criticle when a new product comes out. I personally haven't seen any probles with the filters. I have three trucks with thier filters, one with the old oil type and two with the new Eaa filter. The old oiled filter Has served my '03 well for the last 189,000 miles, and I have no doubt the Eaas will do well in my '06s. There isn't a filter out there that will block every little speck of dust. I believe the Eaa filters to be the best you can get of both worlds (filtering and flow capability combined). I do have a few customers that run these filters in the California desert playing in the sand with thier trucks, and have got nothing but good feedback from them. Some of them members of TDR. I guess I should also let you know that I am not parshall to Amsoil filters just because I sell them. I also sell K&N, Afe, Airraid, Banks, Granitelli, Donaldson, and a few others not well known.

GOOD ADVICE!

The stock filter boxes are junk as far as filter sealing is concerned - and as long as I was using that box for ANY filter, I would absolutely use seal grease to prevent leakage around the edges!

Here's a pic of the dirt leakage at the edges of the stock OEM filter with low miles on it when my '02 was new:

Steved,

I appreciate the "POKE"! I have to "try" the different Amsoil products in order to "sell" someone. I'm the type of person that has to beleive the products do as advertised, or I would not feel good selling to anyone.

If you knew the extent of the testing that Amsoil takes in bringing new products on line, perhaps you would understand my sticking up for Amsoil Inc. These (EaA) Air filters were developed for the US Army by Donaldson, to be used in Iraq for the M-1 Tanks. It was only recently that Donaldson allowed the exlusive rights for Amsoil to use this technology. (Due to the partnership with Donaldson)

These EaA air filters were tested by (SWRI) Southwest Research Institute for the equivelant of 120,000 with 4 cleanings, and they were still found to be 99 percent Efficient.

You can check out http://www.swri.edu/3pubs/brochure/d03/filtra/home.htm to see how they test filters.

BTW, Amsoil uses this testing facility for conducting tests on many of their products.
