First off i did my first oil change, in the past i had the dealer do it

can someone recommend a good oil filter wrench to use?

when i finished the oil change and let the truck run for a bit to let the oil flow so i could check it i noticed that there was a little bit on top of the filter, i hand tightened the filter and then turned it a littlt tighter with my oil filter wrench Any suggestions?

Third I just rolled over to 140,000 miles and am still stock my first mods are going to be gauges Egt,Boost,Trans Temp.

How hard is it to install gauges and when you buy gauges do they come with everything you need to install them.

A friend of mine remover his silencer ring from his turbo what does this do?, does it just give a little more whine?

I hope i am not boring you with the basic questions but i have been sitting back for a while and trying to learn about my truck from the forums.

Thanks in advance

Gauge install

The boost and pyrometer should come with every thing you need for installation. The transmission temp gauge i don't know about that. Taking out the silencer ring out of the turbo will make it whistle alot more, but no performance gains. Your first mods on right on target. Have fun!!!!!!!:D Oo.

Jeepcjsrule: Welcome! You shouldn't need to tighten the oil filter with your wrench. Tighten as much as you can by hand and should be good. I'm sure you know to use quality oil filters like Fleetguard and fill them with oil prior to installation. As for your oil on top of the filter... ... is it leaking? Maybe it's is just a little spillage when you installed it? As for the wrench, I have a Napa strap wrench, and usually just stick a big, long screwdriver on the edge of filter. Give a few taps and your filter is loose. Stick a plastic bag around it and spin it off.

Yeah, you need gauges, so do I. You also need a GSK from Piers. You'll love it. Have fun.

come to one of the St louis area gatherings. we can set your timing, slide your plate and send you home with about 60 more HP and a belly full of BBQ :D

seriously, just hand tighten the filter. the silencer ring is your call. no HP to gain just turbo whine. get a plate or slide yours. time it up a few degrees and build you a transmission.

The gauges from TST come with everything except wire connectors. I soldered all my connections under the dash and covered with heat shrink. The trans temp is straight forward and I suggest getting a couple of spare 1/8" compression fittings for the boost as mine came so distorted that they would not fit over the small hose and also they tend to get lost down in the gravel. . Most of the work is stringing the wires down to the fuse panel and through the firewall. My 96 has a large rubber grommit in the firewall which would not take a drill bit or knife.

To drill it , simply pull the grommit out and then drill on a hard surface. A 1/2 " bit resulted in a 1/4" hole. The grommit will reseat in the firewall metal with a little jockeying. Connect the lights to the top of the 5 amp "Illum" fuse, not the bottom as the directions indicate. This will give you fuse protected dimming control. Check this with a test light! The gauges look great at night, like a warm fire sort of. Enjoy.
