The dealer gave me a Vehicle Order Number today! Order was entered on 12/30/03 and is now BX status. What is a typical wait for a VIN and build schedule. The wait is driving me nuts. DC customer service had some interesting comments. They did not know when the new "600" was going to start being installed and indicated that I need to keep in touch with the dealer on build date and shipping. They said to see how often the dealer was getting trucks delivered. I think there is something to dealer preference, allocations etc. as it seemed pretty clear to me that build and delivery schedule had a lot to do with the dealer. Any thoughts?

Dealers have allocations on some vehicles. I attempted to order my 04. 5 in Tucson, and was told that if i ordered mid-December, it would be built in March because they have an allocation of 6 per month. I called the dealer in Denver where I bought my last truck, and was promised a January build. Actual build date in Jan. 8. Their allocation is 65 trucks / month. An allocation of only 6 trucks / month would limit a dealer's incentive to discount very much.
