I cannot find a number on the block but there is a sticker of the driver side of the rocker cover. Says 53040 , I assume that is the enginge i was hoping to avoid.
I had a 53, it cracked in August of 03 with 130kmi. Had it repaced by Cummins West in Sacramento Ca. I am the original owner, and I had a Van Aaken box at the time. Build was 11/98, Saltillo Mexico. I was given the 50/50 deal. I wasn't a TDR member at the time, I posted a thread on the BD Performance site and got an E-mail from Christian Roth regarding Cummins 50% deal. Locked into a 66month lease, way over my miles and facing a $14000 estimate from Dodge, I was a man with no whwere to turn. So I guess I was glad to come out only paying $4500. I feel bad for anyone who now only gets $1000 towards the repair. All parts I buy are from aftermarket suppliers. DC and Cummins got my money when they charged me extra for the Cummins option when it was new and when they replaced the block, they wont ever get another dime from me.
I have a 99 and I have one of those no number blocks (NOT a 53 block). Just a couple of letters and numbers mixed together. I think someone once said it was a mexican block. My truck was built in St Louis too.
