anyone have a pic of this done? I am curious to what exactly it is. I dont have a 53 block thankfully. But I am just curious to see what the lock'n stich fix actually is.

There are some blurry pics of the Lock-N-Stich fix on my web site. Unfortunately, the machinist doing the fix wasn't a photographer. The owner sent me the pics after the fix was complete.

If anyone has better pics of the Lock-N-Stich repair, please let me know/send them to me. I want to post them on my web site. I'd really like step by step pics as the job is being done.

Some better pics in a PDF from Lock N Stitch:

sweet, thanks, that answers my question. My other question is, how does this hold the block together... seems like it would make it weaker, oh well, very interesting.

Outstanding!!!! Oo. Oo. Oo. I am so relieved. Thought I would have to pull the engine and swap out the block. This looks like it will work just fine. Thanks Chris! This forum is AWSOME!!! :) Too bad I can't say the same for my truck. Dodge bent us over on this one #@$%! Still waiting for the day Honda puts a Cummins in there line of trucks. :D

Okay, I'm ordering the Lock-n-stich tomorrow. Can anybody give me step-by-step instructions? Do I need to drain the coolant? has anybody done this from below? Did you have to remove the down pipe to get it from below? Answers, I NEED ANSWERS! Oo.

I am sure that Lock-N-Stitch will be happy to provide you with instructions. I don't know your skill level, but in many cases I have heard that a machine shop does the repairs. I doubt this is a requirement, but Lock N Stitch should be able to inform you of what skills and tools you will need to perform this repair.

It seems to me that I have seen where some people have removed the turbo and exhaust, and even the right fender, to give easier access to the work area. I think it's because holes must be drilled along the entire crack, and depending on what kind of drilling equipment you have access to, you may need a larger work area. This will be up to you. If you have an auto you are sure to have to remove the heat exchanger for the transmission.
