I just got my air horns..have a ?

I just picked up a set of Hadley air horn on ebay and have a question. The horns have a pull chain to turn them on and I want a electric solenoid to run em. Does anyone know where I can get one?? I plan on installing them in the same place the last guy who posted pictures did. I think it was Bigsaint maybe?? Right under the radiator/intercooler, but where do you guys install the air compressor?? and how about the tank?? I have a bigger tank I want to use... is there any reason I could not have a tank in the back on the frame rail and put the compressor back there too??

JR2, you can get the solenoid from Ricksons Wheels, give them a call at 800-587-7633. I'm sure there are alot of other sources to get them from, but the folks at Ricksons are great people to do business with.



Can't help ya with the tank compressor questions as mine are run without a compressor at this time, just two large aux. tanks piggybacked. You might want to try to find a location under the hood for the compressor, I don't think it would weather your climate too well on the frame.

JR2 , my setup was the one under everything like a nicey nice little package. the compressor and tank Side by Side with the tank up behind the bumper on the lower radiator support , and the horns themselves on the bacside passenger part of the same crossmember with the short horn residing right next to the framerail. I am franticly searching archived pics for ya. A key note is the shorter the line between the horns and the tank the louder / more sharp they will be. I have had countless comments on the sound they make "Man mine don't sound like that" or "Howcum yours sound a Heluva lot louder than the ones Ive heard" and I really think that the nylon line must be at it's shortest length. <hr>

I agree with TMTT, I mounted my solenoid valve up front and under the frame so that I could keep the run with the 1/4 line as short as possible. I was more concerned that there might be a slight delay from when I hit the horn 'till I had a response. I have no delay and they are loud and deep.

12v solenoid

Another place you can pick up a solenoid is any place you can buy lift truck parts. All LPG gas operated rigs have a nice little 12v solenoid that will work. Worked for me.

I mounted my compressor and tank on the left fender brace. It involved some trial and error, but I think the mount is secure, and the compressor is not exposed to rain or splashing water/snow/rocks.
