How to polish exhaust tip?

I never thought I’d do this at my ripening age, but... ya just never can say never, I guess. The dark a. m. hours on Sunday morning just past found me angling across the top of Georgia on a favorite piece of blacktop that crosses and recrosses a lake system. At a remote stop light, a big, white Ford PS pulls up next to me. I glance over at him, and in the glow of a mess of guages, I see him giving my ‘95 2500 CTD the once over. Now mine is a mechanically bone-stock 12v auto; I’ve been putting the money in bringing back her beauty. The Ford has no doubt been touched with an aggressive wrench: there’s the matter of all those guages and the huge open exhaust curling out in front of the duallies--no constipation on that one.

After giving each other the once-over, we sedately pull away from the green light and head down the arrow-straight highway. Although I’m acting my somewhat exalted age, this whole situation is getting to be just too much for Ford-boy. He pulls alongside me on my left and starts jumping ahead about one length and dropping back, jumping ahead and dropping back. He does this three times before it starts to work on me, and I catch him on a fall-back and slap the feed to the floor... and everything just goes right! The transmission catches a perfect wave of a downshift, the turbo is right there, and I must have been in the sweet spot of the power curve, because I just grease away from this guy! A millisecond after I poured it on I heard his straight pipe bellow its rage, and I see him kinda jump, but I’m pulling away!

We get up to the high **’s mph (5th Amendment), and we’re coming up on one of the bridges over the water. We both sensibly back out of it, but, by dangies, he lays back. Seems he’s cased his colors and left the field for the day!

Boy-lemme-tell-ya-what... that was a screaming rush! Now I GET IT! Now I understand why you guys BOMB ‘em so.

But noooooo... I’m not gonna start pouring money into this beast; I’m not going to find myself lurking around dark highways late at night, looking for fresh Fords. That’s just not me... nope, uh-uh, no way. But... I guess ya just never can say never...

Kodiak... . I noticed you didn't indicated your occupation in your profile but from your post you must be a writer!! Well done, sounds like it could be the start of better things to come.

hey Kodiak, how about not pouring any more money in it, and be bombed more than enough for most, around 260 or so hp at the tires, for free eh, do some research here buddy you can do it. #ad

Thanks for all the responses, both here and by e-mail. I see you've all helped new converts through the first stage of acute BOMB-itis before!

I just had to share this with somebody; the wife's eyes glazed over when I told her, and she left the room muttering something about "sports-car menopause... . " There was nobody I could wake up at that time of morning with the story... but the good ole TDR support group was standing by to share the laugh and to help a brother purge the adrenaline rush! #ad

I really appreciate the up-gunning tips that will cost virtually nothing and will start to let this monster engine reach its true stride. I'm reading, listening and learning. Thanks again.

What an awesome story!!!!! Way to go Kodiak!
I know I'm late on this. This is what happens when I miss just a few days of my favorite site on the web. Wish I could have been there to see it.

Thats what it's all about Kodiak
Nuthin' better than beatin' up a powersmoke
I do it all the time on the way home from job sites. city, highway it doesn't matter!
You may even find yourself egging them on, a little blast from the exhaust as you go by always works for me. Just ask the guy in the Impala SS from NY who tried to pull away on the highway last week 100+ mph he was looking in his rearview shaking his head and laughing. Theirs a lot of fun to be had out there!

Kodiak, your motor is not 'stock'! 300hp is stock in a 'B', anything under that is just a handicap for brands X and Y! Think of your soon-to-be-aquired components as required maintanence to bring the engine back up to stock levels... not all choked off as DC would have it!

BCFAST,

What a great way to look at it!! I'm not adding anything, just bringing it back to stock. I LIKE IT!
Wonder if my wife will buy this argument??

Kodiak,
Looks like your truck runs just fine stock.
But you mite want to bring the engine up to Cummins specs just in case one dark night you run into a big white ford ps with a lot of show but had no go the first time. He mite of added a few power enchancements items.

Congratulations!

Hey sewman,

Come on up to Michigan if you can't find anyone in Ohio. I'll "play around" with you!!!! #ad
