A friend and I installed my new MBPR Cool Duals turbo back on Sat. The install was rather straight forward and took us about 2 1/2 hrs. and a few beers... LOL! The hardest part was getting my old "Stock" exhaust off... So, I cut it off.

Now my question for those who have installed the same set-up. I have a 03 HO 4x4, quad cab with a short bed. On the drivers side, my exhaust is so tight with the fit, that it is only about 1/4" away from my shock!?! Also, with it being so tight, my brake lines are actually resting on the exhaust! I zipped tied them away, but they are still too close in my opinion. Any advise what I should do? Did you notice the same things?

The exhaust sounds great too! Oo.

I don't have the MBRP duals, but the ones I have ended up exactly the same way. Only 1/4" away from the shock and my brake line zip tied away from the pipe. It's been that way for a while now, with no issues.

You'll be fine with zip tieing them back. Had it that way for two years before I put my stacks on. Enjoy the setup, I did.

Howdy TurboKidd, what you described is the reason I finally decided to go with the Banks Monster Duals on my 03 CTD HO 6spd QCSB 4X4. I average two round trips a year down the ALCAN so I want to avoid any brake line, shock boot issues. The split duals are 3 1/2" as opposed to 4" from the muffler so I gained some more distance. The system is about like stock at idle and cruise but does have a deeper tone. It is too new to tell any difference in mpg but I did gain a couple hundred RPM at gear change and I can tell a difference in acceleration. This is my first diesel, so it has been a learning experience.

Are you guys able to put a spare tire in it's place with the dual exhaust? Someone was saying that a spare won't fit.

I have / had no problems with the spare tire, however, the brake line issue is what concerns me the most. I drove about 200 miles since the install, and everything is O. K. , but I think about it all the time while I am driving. :( I just don't like it. I work with some HEO mechanics, so on Tuesday I will have crew looking at it. They may have a few ideas for me. Worst case is, I reroute all the lines. :(

Other than the brake line issue, I love the sound, and I can feel my truck pulling harder too. As for MPG, it is way too soon the see anything. However, I'm sure that any gain I may see, will be lost by me slammin' the pedal down to hear the new music... LOL :D

Nate, my spare fits fine. At present, I am running stock LT265/70/17's. This was another reason for the Banks system. MBRP is a great system, but I had problems with installers not knowing the product(s) here in Anchorage and could not get straight answers from any one except for Jim's Mufflers who has done a number of gassers for me in the past. I spoke with the Banks people and they answered all my questions so I decided to go with them. I could not locate anyone in the area that was running a MBRP Cool Duals system to look at. Banks was spendy, but so are all the rest. Not having a shop or the tools to work with, I have to go to an installer. There are a lot of single exit 4" and 5" and stacks in the Anchorage area, but I haven't seen another set of duals yet.

It took quite some time of test fitting the pipes in different configurations, but I was able to find a happy medium where the pipe isn't touching the brake hose, the vent tube or the shock. I did have to wire tie the brake hose and vent tube out of the way a bit. Even with the truck on the lift and the rear end at full travel it clears but it is real close. I still check it during oil changes to make sure its not rubbing. The system has been on the about a year now, so far so good. Hope this helps.

Turbo Kidd,

We have been selling them for 4 years now with no issues at all, the way the stock lines run there just isn't anyway to route a 4 inch pipe sop that they aren't close. A 1/4-1/2 inch is tons as the air that is flowing past it will keep it a loooooot cooler than you think it will etc.

Mark @ DPPI

I would think that large diameter duals that far back would not be that hot sitting still. When you're running down the road, you have the airflow to keep things cool
.

Gentlemen,

First, I would like to thank the boys over at DPPI (Josh & Corey), they both talked to me in great detail before I purchased my MBRP kit. I am VERY happy with the kit, however, the two issues I addressed are very real... . At least on my truck. Now with that being said, I understand that anytime you modify and change things, you MUST be prepared to make some tweaks. This very true in my case, I added a dual exhaust on a truck that was designed for a single. I spoke with Josh today @ DPPI (Great guy & a big help)..... He gave me the tech number over at MBRP. So, I decided to give them a call. I spoke with Jeff, he was very helpful as well.

Here is the scoop, Jeff did indicate that everything should clear the exhaust, HOWEVER, he did say many people have had to zip tie their vent hose and brake lines a little to keep them out of the way... . That is what I did, and it really is not a big deal. As for the shock clearance issue, he also indicated that it is a tight fit, but there should be a good 1/2" or more of clearance. I have about 1/4". With that being said, with the kit, you can make several adjustments to situate the exhaust... . I did a little tweaking today, and I am happy. Now on Sat. I will be welding everything together and removing the clamps. I don't need to do it, but I like a clean look and install.

Would I buy this set-up again? YES! I love it! I just needed to tweak things a bit. It did make me feel better that the MBRP tech was on the same page... . At least I know I didn't do anything wrong.

I would recommend DPPI and MBRP products to anyone! :D

Thanks!

Yeah . . . had to do the same tweaking on the MBRP Cool Duals system for my 2005, but the diff vent, brake lines, shocks and spare all clear it fine. Ditto for the same exhaust system installation on my 2001. 5. If I had the choice to do it all over again, I'd definitely go with the Banks Monster Dual Exhaust (had their single exhaust on another 2nd Gen and it fit like a glove right out of the box . . . a little spendy, but really nice).

Just my $. 02 :)

Same as has been stated.....

Spare fits. .

Just tie the offending hoses out of the way...

If on a hard pull on a long enough grade the exhaust gets quite hot back there.

Even on a stock truck, I still had no issues with anything melting.

An "accidental" overload and a BIG hill let me know just how hot it would get.

A loooooooooong steep hill coming to Ohio back from NC.

One thing you do have to watch, we put a B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch in AFTER the exhaust.

When you turn the ball over it woun't fit all the way down like it is supposed to.

I never tried to see if the exhaust could be adjusted so it would fit all the way in.

I never use the bed to haul stuff in, it's just a place to mount a trailer LOL.

KO

Well..... I thought I had everything ready to go for last night to weld up the exhaust. As I was going over one last inspection, I noticed that the drivers side exhaust pipe will be crushed if I bottom out to the bump stop. :( So, I called MBRP back, and spoke with another tech..... He said to loosen the brackets and twist the exhaust to a more desireable location. This sucks..... here we go again. Two hours of laying under my truck with my mechanic from work, and there is NO postiton that allows total clearance of the axel and bump stop!!! So, now I call MBRP again today, and I sent them pictures via E-mail.

O. K. , am I the only one who has had these problems?

I like the exhaust, but the tweaks are ******* me off to no end. Any suggestions you may have, please pass them along!
