Competition Compression ratio - why lower it???

Competition Pinks all out

It was awesome, hearing those babys spoool! As I'm taking my time winding her up, a sideline QB says, "Let the clutch out man!"

(shut-up!)

When I did, I took off like a shot smooth and powerful launch, not like some other trucks that night that bounced and jerked, in several classes.

At about 216,

BOOM!!!!!

Stall.

The crowd,"OOOOHHHHHHH"

I coasted two more feet, to 218, not enough to beat a Ford at 219, Or BLack dog at 236, or the six pro stock NON street gassers ahead of us. (It was supposed to be a mod street class!?!?!?!?!?!?)

Announcer," WE NEED A TOW TRACTOR!!!"

Wrong, I fired her back up, left the track, and put my boot back on, and drove 2 hours home, ticked off at the dern boot.

Gene

Gene, aren't you running a 35 as your small turbo, and if so what kind of boost are you running..... just curious. Have you come up with and good ideas for the hose ends! The gasser turbo/blower guys take the tubes they make and roll the ends in a bead roller then weld two tabs on both connections and use the good thick blue hose and put a small threaded rod with hyme joints on it between the two and use the good heavy duty clamps so no matter what it won't blow the tubes off.

Jim

Gene, that stinks! If the boot would have held,do you think you would have won?Man,it must have sounded like a 12 guage went off when that hose blew. Do you have a permanent fix planned to take care of this problem.

Won? No.

Blackdog watched my truck being built at Enterpise, then told them to DOUBLE what ever I had!! Jerk. LOL!(not really, but he has more/bigger goodies than I do. )

His is a puller that is streeted.

Mine is a streeter that pulls on the weekend.

I'm wastegated at 60#, it hit 84 before the wastegate went on.

We have several ideas, it always the same boot, maybe just a longer boot with double clamps? Hope I don't have do get that drastic with welding tabs and so forth. I really did not expect it to blow at 60 #, I better check my wastegate.

BTW, The SPA insisted I only had 46 #. Boots should not blow at 46.

I'm going to do some checking, see if that guage is allright, also.

Sorry to hear that Gene, hope you get it figured out so that the boots will hang on for a full run. Why don't you glue them on with something? There is also a thread on here somewhere and JR2 is sourcing full silicone hose sets.

Gene,

Just can the intercooler. Pipe straight into the intake from the turbo and run water or alcohol mixture.

Don~

Day I Bombed my pickup I got my wife and told lets go try it outOo. Took off down the drivway like a rocket then pow, blew boot off and then I could barely get 30 mph out of it to go back and put it together. :( Oh Well.

Well Gene shouldn't feel so bad b/c the same boot on my truck slid about a half inch but I got it tightend back up today and hopefully it will stay on and also I dont have mine wastegated yet so when that gets on there it won't be runnin 75-80 lbs of boost down the track. Good run last night Gene, you had me worried when you come outta the hole. I think you brought your RPM alot higher but it was my first run with the truck and after seeing how rough the track was I figured I had better take it easy.

3800 RPM, huh.....

Gene, you do have cajones of solid steel, my friend must be kinda awkward to sit down... ... ... .

Congrats on what sounds like it started out as a great pull, though.

Tom

It was nice meeting everyone last night. The Cummins crowd as usual ran great. Black Dog's truck put on a nice show. And Sled puller managed to fool the crowd into thinking he woofed a turbo. :D

I hope to have more fuel to play with at the next pull. Maybe I'll be able to close the gap between us a little.

Its in the cam man!

It is awesome from 1800 to 3000, but you still have useable power clear to 4200, where my gov. is set.

It runs very smooth up that high. :D :D

I feel your pain. My boot story----Finally got the B-1 and put it on. Man I couldn't wait to try it out. I have some real good friends who own a farm in another county with some great hills and they were going down there to pick up a tractor and gooseneck. I of course volunteered to take may truck and try out my new toy. The trailer and tractor together weigh about 18,000lbs. The biggest hill they have (est. 7% grade 3/4mile long) is only a mile from the farm at the end of a straight stretch. So I'm just starting to get in it approaching the hill in 4th, we hit it doing about 65 and here comes the boost:D :D I get into the left lane to pass an Amish family with a horse and buggy going up the emergency lane. My friend watches the boost gauge hit 46lbs when POW, there goes the boot. The worst part was pulling over and watching the Amish family pass me with 1 horse power:( Of course my friends didn't tell anyone about this-YEAH RIGHT-all weekend long at the tractor pulls I've been called clippity-clop, like the sound the horse made passing me. :{

Hey Mojo, I can't believe you didn't give the horse a heart attack from the sound effects of that boot letting go. I'll have to show you the dents in my headliner from all the times I've blown one boot or another...

Stop by or gimme a call so I can check out that B-1, I've been wanting to look at one .

The shop is starting to come together...

hey Gene, you're gonna have to get some mule ears sown on them boots. to help you pull em back up afterwards :D

I was bracing myself for some bad news as i read down. you should write horror stories for a living...

Thanks, Andrew. :) The website was built( and parts are still being built) for me by a kind and generous friend with loads of talent.

Mark, I've seen the pics of your B-1, I just want to get Mojo over so I can con him into giving me a demo ride. :D He's working too hard on the farm as it is, and going to all the pulls without me. :( while I'm outfitting and converting the shop. No big deal about looking at it, really, I've met Kurt, and I know it's a quality part, coming from him.

Those are pics of the larger housing. The newer ones are smaller. I have a new smaller one too.

I rode in Kurts this weekend and the IS NO LAG!!!

I'll have mine back togeter friday evening with any luck.

a new turbo. . HUGE injectors and an ATS cam... :--) :--) it'll be fun;)
