absolutely no problem!! don't have to mess with EGT problems, no radiator problems... (air-cooled) tires are cheap!! etc. etc. etc.

Saw one of those engines with a turbo and a dyno slip over 500 hp. Course it was in a rail used primarily for sand drags but why not? Yarding that trailer around might just be the answer to making enough heat to keep the windows defrosted :)

Works for me!! :D Now, since we're towing heavy, maybe I could bomb it with a Type 4 or Porsche 912 engine!!!! Oo. Oo.

Of course he has air bags, exhaust brake with 4-5-6" exhaust... .

Bomb'ed rear end with disk brakes, etc, etc. .

But Officer, I did all of this stuff to my rig and it is just the same as ... ...

;)

I used a '58 36 hp model just like it to pull my 24' Glen-L with a supercharged 392 hemi back in the sixties. Uphill in 1st gear at 15mph, and downhill in third gear with engine screaming for engine braking. No way the truck brakes were gonna stop that rig!

Of course he has the 2276cc flat four with the 48 IDA webers and reduction boxes on the transaxle... (just kidding) And of course the one thing that most people don't realize is that all VW type 2 transporters were one ton rated by Volkswagen from the factory. I along with a bunch of people that I hang out with used to go to Carlsbad raceway in our VW bugs and run the quarter mile between 12-14 seconds. There was even a guy who took a vw double cab like that and put a small block under the bed in the storage compartment area and was pulling wheelies with it! Love that photo!

OOhhh ...Mr Surf...you're so wrong

I just put some DZus fasteners on that Cummins from my Dodge, and slap it in that vee-Dub like it's nothing... does wheelies just sitting still... from the weight... not the Torque... LOL...

but you obviously know your air-cooled's hhhmmmmm...

can't find a way to put my Pull-Rite hitch in this SOB ... mounting points are all-wrong... any advice????

Yeah that's tough about the mount points... The only way that I could see doing it would be to have a tube chassis tied into the frame horns at the transaxle. Then the trans would have to be solid mounted to the frame. Oh yeah, don't forget the rear engine mount. LOL But seriously, if someone found an old double cab that was too far gone to do a correct restoration, it would be kinda cool to put that kind of body on a frame with some real horsepower. It sure would be one conversation piece. I grew up around old VW's, my grandfather had a '67 21 window microbus, my first car was (still have it) a '67 bug. I also have a '61 bug and a couple of years ago I traded my sister a '56 oval window bug for a boat. I sold the boat and she still has the bug.

I may like to go fast in my bug, but all of the modifications that I have done could be undone with some wrenching to return the car back to stock as I don't really believe in cutting up old cars.

I'm with you on the originality points, mine is except for the motor, even has the gear-reduction transmission still... trying to find a great bodyman that knows VW's to do the bodywork, and spray it OG color, gonna get some replacement panels for the interior and that's it.

It sure does look cool parked to my Dodge... Big Brother. . Little Brother

Here are a couple of places (I have no affiliation with) that are always being referred to in Hot VW's and VW Trends magazines. Both are shops here in southern california (don't know where you are). Flat4.com is actually a place called West Coast Classics in Fullerton. A buddy of mine did a restoration on a '62 convertible years ago and they did the top. The car ended up in a feature in VW Trends. It came out very nice. The toughest thing that you will come up against is finding correct panels for the bed rails if yours happen to have any damage to them. Good Luck!
