I just found out this morning that I finally made the SFC/E-7 list!

I am #5 on the list, so hopefully I'll pin next month.

Sorry, I've this permanent grin on my face, and I had to tell someone.

Well, a lot of jokes can be made about army intelligence, but I won't…. Thanks for you service, soon to be Sergeant First Class.

P. S. after 7 years 2 months and 22 days I left as an E-6, but that was over 30 years ago!!

Well I've had good assignments... 10th SFG(A) was my best.

Before Intel, I was a 67N (now 15M), UH-1H repair.

Congratulations. As one who has sweated a few promotion boards (I was a 67N for awhile) I can definitely identify with your jubilation. Good Job!

Congrats on your passing the board. How many years you have in? I am just fininshing my career. This weekend I should get the word if I can retire or have to wait another year. I'm sure they will tell me its time. Whoopee.

I have 18 and some change in. I was planning on retiring as a SSG but, given the economy, maybe staying in and going for 30 or even 40 doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Well Flynes, if your active, how are you staying 40 years? 30 years is maximum for active duty in any branch including the Coast Guard. Cannot even get extentions after 30 anymore in the Air Force. 28 years for me is enough. This Christmas will be my last. Anywise Congrats on your advancement.

I have a soldier who's father is a Master Chief in the Navy, and he's been in 36 years.

Just like GAmes said, the pay chart does have an over 38, so that's what I'm basing my aspirations on... SMA Lynes has a nice ring to it! :-laf

I have a friend who was a Cobra pilot in Viet Nam and is still on active duty flying AH-64s and has done 2 or 3 tours in Iraq. He may be over 40 years active by now. Check out the base pay for a CW5 over 38. Add flight pay, quarters allowance, seperate rations and combat pay. Amazing. Funny thing is, he doesn't care about the money as much as he doesn't want to stop flying.
