We were the lead story on channle 32 out of Louisville, KY at 5:30pm on the 11th. They sent out the chopper for some shots of this... (my pics after the fire)

more pics can be found here.

We estimate $350-400k worht of damage. I might end up with a few dolars for my truck. They dont know what started it yet, but it started between the Allis Chalmers G, John Deere 318 mower and the Case 2290 tractor. We know that because that is what was burning when my sis found it. They called 5 stations from 3 districts to fight it. I was amazed that our local VFD "the concrete pad savers" did get it out. After they left it flaired back up real big and me and a friend put it out in 2 hours of throwing muddy water on burning tires. When I got the call from my sis on it, it was the first time I got up to 90mph in the gravel driveway in 4x4.

The insurance will cover about everything except the bronco II(liablity only) and the motorcycle (no insurance). The tractor tires exploding was herd 8 miles away. :--)

Right after the fire, everybody wanted to come out, look, and walk around through it. I put up alot of no tresspassing signs, they didnt work. But when I was sitting on a chair next to the barn with my AR15 in hand, they got the message and left in a hurry. When the insurance guy and investigators showed up, they laughed about it because they knew it can be hard to get rid of people.

I am alright, nobody was hurt. I will take donations in the from of budlight. :D

Major bummer Wayne. Will the settlement actually cover the loss? Were you using all the equipment where you'll have to replace it all or is this going to be a windfall?

That sucks for sure! Here, I'll buy the first round!

That poor 8410! :( I have a lot of time sittin' in one of them going round and round pulling spud rows (GPS guided of course! ;) ).

Sorry for your loss, but, it's just stuff, and that's what you have "in case I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER!" for. AKA, insurance! Glad nobody got hurt.

Josh

P. S... . LMAO about the "the concrete pad savers" AHAHAHHAHAHA

The fun part is figuring out the $$$ from all of this. The 8410, 4955, JD bush hog, CIH disk, chisle plow and till all was my bosses. The woods bush hog was a neighbors farm. The 4. 0 was their son's from his ranger in the shop, his hood and radiator from a 93 ranger were also in there. The motorcycle was his brothers. And the bronco II and motorcycle trailer is my bro-in-laws. And the 3 graviety wagons were just sold to someone else.

Is that a mess or what?

As far as the $$$ for me, we are expecting 150K back from the ins co. My farm operation was stopped since my dad died a few years ago and rented the farm to my boss. So I'm gonna buy 1 used tractor and bush hog for me and build a smaller barn back in its place. As far as the rest of the cash, some will go here, some will go there, and some might find its way to another CTD to play with.

My boss is looking at replacing the 8410 with a nice shiny 8520:cool:

As far as how it started, it came from either a AC G that has been sitting for 6 years, a JD lawn mower that had been sitting for 2 months (I hate mowing grass), or a Case that had been sitting for 2 weeks. No electricity in that part of the barn, and no extension cords, and no chargers. None of the batterys look like they blew up, only melted from the heat. We are guessing that there is one xtra crispy mouse in the lawnmower.

As far as arson, there is no leads for other people, and we sure as heck didnt set it, we need those tractors and disk and tillall now.

Wayne, sorry about what you have lost there. Did you see Whitmore hanging out around your place before that happened?

You got a before picture you can post to give us some perspective?

Doc

You know, I thought I saw an out of state CTD leaving right before it happened. Oo.

So are you going to try to salvage any of the stuff that may be salvageable, or buy back anything from th insurance company. It looks like there are a few fixable projects there.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

My brother's car was torched a few months back. He got there in time to save it. No concrete suspects, but theyre thinking the local juveniles.

I was amazed that our local VFD "the concrete pad savers"

I don't want to sound like a dick abouht this but the above quote is a low blow below the belt. I am a volunteer FIRE FIGHTER/ EMT and DAMN proud of it. We do put our lives on the line for free you know, its a dirty job but somebodies got to do it. I am use to the joke's smirks and sly remarks, but I still let people know bout it. Looking at the picture you posted it does not look like there are any hydrants to hook up to for a suppy of water, and no pond to draft from, so I'm sure there was a lot of tanker relay done to get water to this site to put this fire out. As far as the hot spots or flair ups go you should have called the fire department again that is what we are there for. I know we talk and kid with a lot of things on this web site but when it comes to doing a serious job as this it is no joke, and the men and women that do, do this job know what I am talking about. Sorry about the gripe but had to sound off here and let my voice be heard and veiws known.

The little home town volunteer fire department I grew up in had a reputation of never losing a city lot to a house fire.

Hehhehehe! Concrete savers, hehehehe!

Looked like the best barn ya had Wayne, that sucks.

The local VFD are the same as the police, glad they are there, but you can't count on them to save you if there is trouble-too far away.

A lot can happen in 15-20 minutes.

I can remember supplying coffee to the VFD @ 1am last january while roasting hotdogs over the neighbors house.

they worked their tails off but just couldnt beat it. a 4 BR 2 story was reduced to rubble in the cellar. relaying water? They used that neighbors entire pound (1/3 acre) then came over and sawed a hole in the ice of mine and started pumping it out.

I have since installed a hook up with a strainer to the deep end of my pound for them.

instead of poking fun, poke your hand out with some cash to donate to them.

To anyone who I might offend by my "concrete pad saver" line. My local VFD is a bunch of idiots. I am sorry if I offended the good VFD members here with my joke of my local BAD one.

It took them over 5 mins to start to spray water on it after they arrived. Even after they had 5 stations here, they were still only running a 2" and a 3" hose on it. There was at most 10 people doing anything, the other 30 or so were standing around watching it burn. The closest hydrant is 1 mile away and there is a good pond to pull water from right there too.

And if I would have called them at 1am to put out the flare ups out, the would have came out with the brush truck, put 50 gallons of water on it and went to bad.

They have $$ for equiment, just no brains.

In the last 3 years, I dont thing there has been a single structure fire that they have responded to that didnt need a bulldozer in the end.

Also, they started to fight the fire from the end where it started and push it to the good stuff, not start where it is spreading to and keep it off of the good stuff. They would have been able to save the 3 graviety wagons, the MF180, farmall S MTA, and the Till All and motorcycle. But they did shower the 4. 0 for a minute and it was never onfire. They did hold the 2" hose on the fuel tank for about 10 minutes. We told them there was maybe 10 gallons of diesel in it.

Here's a question for all of the FD's out there. If you were at a large barn fire, where would you start ti figt it at? At the end where everything is already trash, the middle of the fire, or on the end where it is spreading to? Rember the end towards the grain bins, 120' is completly open, no doors, so you can see whats going on.
