Clear Lake, IA! (adding to the off topic conversation) You don't own the infamous corn and bean field there, do you?

Several years ago my wife and I walked a well trodden path along a fence line on some IA farmer's corn or bean field to the site where Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Richie Valens died in February 1959. A small monument was built on the site and apparently the farmer who owns the land doesn't mind tourists hiking along the edge of his field. At least there were no no trespass signs.

We also visited the Surf Ball Room nearby. Some still say the music died in a field near Clear Lake, IA.

Harvey, no I don't own that field, but it's about 1 1/2 miles east of me. Sometimes we see people back there at that site. I live right here and I've never been there, go figure, and yes it is open to the public. They just don't want you to trample their crops. They just expect people to show a little respect for their property.

The Buddy Holly celebration, was Feb 2nd. The Winter Dance Party, they have at the Surf Ballroom draws people from all over the country, there's even people that come over from England. The restaurants during that time get a lot of people dressed up in 50's attire, ladies wearing poodle skirts, guys with their hair slicked back, wearing tee shirts, leather jackets and blue jeans.

One of the highlights of small town rural America.

Gary,

We know some of the Brits who used to fly over every February to attend that event at the Surf. Back in the early '90s the '50s car club we were active in at the time was deeply involved with a Buddy Holly Festival in his hometown, Lubbock. We all had our '50s cars involved and one of the things we did was meet and transport eight or ten Brit couples from the airport to their lodging and host their visit. Some of them became good friends and we spent time with them every year for a few days when they returned several times over the next several years. They were avid fans and fun people to spend time with. We still receive Christmas cards and occasional post cards from one of the couples.

Lots of memories.

Harvey,

It sounds like you had fun escorting the Brits to the festival in your 50's cars and making friends with them.

What's important in this life is, ... people, and relationships. Unfortunately, I'm learning that late. I've spent most of my life focusing on work, getting things done, ... . thinking some day, when I have more time, I'll do this or that. Age has a way of sneaking up on you, kicking you in the rear and making a guy think.

Learning to appreciate things and people for what they are, ... without all the expectations we place on them, makes life a lot easier and happy. Just learning to be content with what we have and having an, ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE.

Psalm 118:24

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

To Rejoice, IS a decision, not a consequence of our circumstances.

Well, ... . now that we've had our lesson on life. :)

Back to the Clutch, ... I think I'm going to order a South Bend 13125 OK-HD 13'' w/ 1 3/8 center. I probably didn't need to upgrade to the 1 3/8 input, but since mine needed replaced, I thought, ... Why Not.
