Good Steel Is hard to find.....

Copper Grounding Rods???

Time to purchase a new computor, for home use. Mostly just for home office and web surfing and checking out this site, of course.

Also my 11 y/o daughter will be spending plenty of time on it chatting to her friends.

Anyone have any suggestion? Are there any good deals available out there?

I got mine back in October. It was $1199. 00.

It has an Athlon 1. 4 gig processor, cd-rw, DVD 512 mb ram, 40 gig hdd (should have gotten a bigger harddrive) nice monitor (mx-70) real nice speakers, extra ports all over it... . 1394, serial,USB etc. etc.

Look in the Sunday paper for sales flyers. I've been seeing them equipped like mine, but with a faster processor for about the same price, however theyre now occasionally throwing in a color printer with it.

I got mine at Staples, and I talked them down on the extended warranty. I got the 5 year in home warranty for the price of a 3 yr carry in. Think it was like $100. 00 as opposed to $300. 00+.

I plan on keeping this computer that long, but you might not.

After my last puter crapping out 1 month out of warranty, I didnt want that to happen again.

As long as you don't care much about adding components after purchace, I'd recommend an E-Machine. Best Buy, Staples and the like have good sales on them. E has been making machines for a while, the ones I've seen have been reliable, and you get a lot for your buck.

Dare to be different....

Why not consider the new iMac? - very Kid friendly and much more fun right out of the box. I've used Macs for almost 17 years now and FWIW, albeit a little more expensive, it'll deliver what you want with minimal aggravation

Ours is a Hewlett Packard. They say Dell is a good one also. Wifey and I got ours for Christmas from her parent's a couple of years ago.

I have ad very good luck with gateway. I have had 2 laptops and one desktop. all 3 worked great. I use the laptops in a big truck on the road with bunmps and rough roads and it never failed while out on the road.

I just built a system from scratch and I have a AMD atlon XP 1900 (equiv to a 2. 0 gig) processor and a western dig. 100 gig HD and a 76 GIG storage HD.

50 x CD rom CD burner and such... ... .

But I run Win XP and if you keep up on the updates, the new version is just like win 2000 very stable and fast startups.

Building this myself with some of the hardware I already had saved a bunch. look into a computer builder and you can get much more machine than one factory built.

If all you want to do is surf the internet, do office applications, e-mail, chat, etc... You cannot beat an e-machine. I quit building machines for my relatives 2 years ago because it was cheaper to just go buy one of these for what they do. Last one I bought (for an aunt) was about 3 months ago... . $399 at frys, included everything except the monitor.

i'm with torque this......

best machines i have ever owned were dells..... gateway is ok if you don't want to bomb it.
