I had a BD on my 98 and loved it. It would stop so hard people would try to rear end me. I ended up installing a 3 way switch.

Switch up: the exhaust brake worked normal, when you let off the fuel it came on.

Center was off

Switch down: you had to be off the fuel and have the brake pedel pressed.

After playing with it a couple weeks I noticed I always ran the exhaust with the brake pedel activating it. Just tap the brake pedel enough to turn on the brake lights and the exhaust brake would come on. Later I broke the switch so I wired it with a SPST switch so it was off, or activated by brake lights.

For my 06 I bought the Jake brake. Its the one Cummins says is OK. If it does not stop as hard as my BD used to that would be ok. No warrantee issues.

Plus something in my brain likes the idea of vacuum activated over air pressure activated.

I will use the ECM to activate it, but I am tempted to go back to a SPDT switch like I had on the 98 (only still using the ECM output to activate it). The only reason for the UP position is so you can run it at idle to assist in warmup (without having to hold down the brake pedel)

Then when its down, it will come on when the ECM says so, and the brake is pushed

Already having air on board for other reasons I bought a $40 solenoid and Pacbrake without the compressor for less than $500 and it works beautifully.

Bought my Pacbrake from Pacific Clutch and Brake . It works great :) and I leave on all the time. I really like having the extra braking while towing the horse trailer in the Sierras.

anybody know how to set up the Jacobs to work when warming up truck without the brake pedal being pushed. (not trying to hijack your thread I already bought the jacobs due to warrenty reasons)

You don't need to do anything. That's the way it works out of the box. The brake pedal switch was a modification that TowPro made to suit his particular requirements. ;) :D

My B-D was dealer installed and it's air operated. The only thing that would make it better for me is if I could run it with the cruise on.

AH, I think I read the Jake works with the cruse on!

Indeed, it does. If your speed increases while going down a hill with the cruise on, the ECM will activate the (Jacobs) exh brake. Also, if you hold down the decel button long enough, the exh brake will activate. ;)

I have always ran BD engine brakes. I like using it all the way to the stop sign or light with my 98 12 valve. I pull a very big boat and haven't had to do brakes on the front until two months ago. (98000. miles) I believe that they were the ones that pioneered the exhaust mounted engine brake.

PD is nice. You can get two different one one has only 900 psi and the more $ one has 1500psi and the bigger one will lock the rear tires up at high rpm's on dry pavement if you don't watch it.

Sean

Most of the ECM operated brakes do this. I know my pac does.
