I purchased an 04. 5 HO 3500 QC 6-speed this past Saturday. Had the B&W hitch installed and was ready to roll.

I put this truck to work right away. It pulls good, but I need more. I was having a hard time maintaining speed in 6th gear (fwiw, I had 21,000lbs worth of trailer weight).

Also, when does the mileage start to increase, empty, I'm only seeing 13. 7-14mpg:(

Sean,

good to finally see you on the board! :D

as you're well aware from your lurking days, there's tons of info on here. now that you're able to search, I'm sure you'll be on non-stop for a couple days straight!

don't be a stranger, you still need to come give me a ride in that thing!

Give it some time. If you just bought the truck, you don't have enough miles on it to see an increase in mileage. I have just under 5000 on mine, and I'm still around 15mpg. Wait until you have 10-15,000 and see how your mileage is.

Forrest,

I've been lurking for a long time. Unlike the other boards, there is real info here:D Oh, changed the SN so I could write it off;)

I'll roll by next week and let you drive it.

Jeff, I figured a bit of a break in and 10,000 miles will be gone shortly. I let my dad borrow the truck to go to Denver today, next week I am headed to Houston, then San Angelo, then El paso and so on.

But I still need more power!:)

I don't how much difference there is between the 04 and the 04. 5. It may just be in the emmision equipment and programming for more hp. If so, then any of the performance goodies for the 03-04 should work (i. e. injectors, turbos, boxes, etc. )

Hope so. I just received a quote on a 4" DP and 5" back exhaust for under 400 bucks. Not quite sure how that aligns with the main stream brands price wise.

yeah, Sean will break it in shortly... I believe he left the lot with 30k lbs hooked up! :p and it'll probably log 100k+ in the first 12 months! LOL!

good idea on the name change ;)

sorry I missed your call earlier.

Forrest

TX I assume you know before any box goes under the hood to help with power you need to get a set of gauges in there, especially since you tow heavy.

I would change your rear axle oil soon, mine was pretty nasty even after 5000 miles and no towing.

Vaughn

gotta love a small town dealership!

I'm almost done buttoning up the motor for the silver car... hope to have it back on the road within a week-week. 5!

Forrest

Vaughn, I hope to have an EGT and boost gauge on fairly soon. Any suggestions? I had a spa gauge on my old PSD, but didn't care for the night display. Thanks for the tip on the axle. I'll have it changed.

Sean,

I'm happy w/ my Autometers, but I believe there's a company that makes a set that very closely match the factory gauges in your truck. can't remember which, but a quick SEARCH might turn up some info ;) :p

Forrest

Any idea with a box, exhaust and a decent air filter what kind of numbers it'll put down? I want decent power, but I must have the temps down.

Also, what are the affects on warranty?
