I recently left my 2001 go and pulled all my xtra parts off. I will be selling them to do some upgrades to my new 03. So, I would like everyone's input on fuel/timing boxes that are currently on the market. I know there are some new one's about to hit the market, but I want to know what the going thing is now. I have a few listed that I found by doing a search. I plan to dyno the truck at our next event on October 5 and want the box on by then. Please refain from brand bashing, just give me pro's and con's of what you like and dislike. No heresay please. I would like to hear first hand experience. Thanks in advance. Please help me smoke my clutch. :D

I haven't bought one yet but plan to early next year. One important aspect for me is that I be able to change H. P. levels on the fly. The best scenario would be a switch that would mount on my 6 speed shifter. Is anybody in the fueling box business listening?

I've got the Quadzilla box, been running it for over 35K mi. with no problems. I haven't seen his adjustable on the fly box yet. The extra 60 hp. is working real well for me.

Bullydog

I put a Bullydog box on mine yesterday and so far I like it. It has a switch in the cab for Off, Level 1 & Level 2. I am not sure what the HP levels are. I have only run it in L1 so far because I have no gauges. Bad Vaughn. Yes, bad bad Vaughn :p

Any way it enhances fueling right off idle so it's nice and strong all the way through. In L1 it hauls! My truck smokes when I blip the throttle (couldn't do that before).

It plugs into the fuel pressure sensor, MAP, cam and crank position sensors, so it does timing, pulse width (I believe) with a slight fuel rail pressure increase.

Wow, I figured edge would be the most preferred, but not 9-1. :D Has anyone tried the Diablo adjustable power puck(0-60-120 HP)? Also, I still don't see the bully dog box on their web site. Do I have to call them?

Get the EZ and then you can stack it with the New adjustable Comp when it come out in a month or so. The EZ is a pressure box and the Comp is a timming box. Being both are adjustable it will give you many different combinations to run at.

well I guess I will be going with an EZ again. It looks as though they are still holding up to there reputation. The AFE is on the way and I will be ordering the EZ shortly. Thanks everybody for input.

I also have the Bullydog box, but unlike bad boy Vaughn I have gauges! LOL Mine runs cooler (EGT) on high (Level 2) than it does on Level 1. :p

See sig or this thread for HP increases: https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79320

Edit: I have never even used Level 1 except for testing! I'm looking for MORE power options. :D

Well I have to tell you, I've never even switched it to L2 yet since I put it on. No kidding! L1 is a hoot as it is! I did try this particular box last August in Aberdeen and used L2 then and it got up to 100 MPH mighty quick! Right now I have the TAG and I think that gets the truck out of the hole faster. It really puts you back in your seat starting around 1400 RPM :D

Matt, what EGTs are you seeing, and what do you have for an airbox? Right now I have the stock filter but have an Amsoil one on the way. I think it will flow better than stock but not as good as AFE but the Amsoil is a cheap inbetween plan for now 'til I can afford the AFE.

On a long grade with 14,000 #'s in tow to the floor: 1200

Empty street flogging: 1300

Cruise control on 75 MPH same grade: 950-975

I have the AFE intake. Let's face it, for street driving you can only have it to the floor for so long and REAL quick you will be doing well past the posted speed limit. So I don't worry about the numbers much. And don't ask me why I get lower EGT's when pulling a load. I have checked and re-checked the numbers because I thought it was a fluke. It's not.

Again, I get lower EGT with the box on high, than on level 1. The numbers drop about 150 or so with the box in the "off" position. I'm not sure if it's really off or not though. Because of my dyno numbers in the so called off position people think it's just the lowest setting. And I have been to busy to call Bully Dog and ask. :( Next time to the dyno I will have more time and actually remove the box and see if the numbers drop any.

Well, just to bring everyone up to date. I bought the EZ and only ran it for two days. I loaned it to a buddy to test it out on his truck and he bought it for what I paid including shipping. On the quest for more power I bought the quadzilla box. (since the EZ no longer has levels 5 and 6). The things I like so far about the quadzilla box are:

*Price was comparable to EZ's that most dealers are selling are suggested pricing

*Power can be switched on and off from in cab

*EGT's are about the same

*Power seems like it comes on a little earlier with this box, maybe 150-200 rpm. (might just feel that way from the increased HP rating)

So far the only things I dislike are:

*the connectors look to be put together cheaply when compared to the edge product

* the motor is a little noisier (injections) than with the EZ.

Other than that they are both nice products. I hope Quadzilla stands behind their product like Edge does.

i bought the ez and have no worries i will stack it with the juice/attitude when it comes out! from what i understand this will net you around 180 hp and give me the prvilage of smoking this weak a$$ cltuch i got. adding 180hp will put me in the 450hp range:--)

Well, I hope he was wrong or I misunderstood, but the guy that I spoke to at Edge the last week told me that the ez and comp stacked will be about 120-140 hp. I hope I misunderstood him, but those are the numbers he gave me. I think his name was either Justin or Jeremy? Not sure.

Oh there was one more thing about the quadzilla box that I don't like so far. I am not sure if it is supposed to do it or not, but it makes my rpm's hang up for a brief second or two between gears. Now I know and understand that they do this briefly between shifts so that the common rail has time to evacuacte the ecxcess fuel, but it takes the normal amount of time and almost doubles it. It almost makes you think the throttle is briefly stuck. It only does this on the high setting. The guy I bought it from is checking with Quadzilla to see if it is a design flaw, or if it is supposed to do that. I am thinking that they probably have the rail pressure so high on the high setting that it has to allow the excess fuel pressure to bleed off between gears.

The new Edge box when it comes out will be over 100 hp by its self. And yes it is stackable with the EZ. But the number he was giving you was for the new box alone, not stacked. Their is no concrete number on what the HP will be with the new one, but they have verified that it will be over 100 HP.

Also on the throttle hang, my EZ does the same thing on level 4. Basically it is getting more pressure so it needs more time yet to bleed off that pressure. If the Quad is making more power then they are using more pressure which mean it is going to take longer still. I have gotten so use to my truck that I don't have any throttle "flare" and actually have to try and make it flare up now. Just remeber to lift off the trottle a second before you push the clutch.

I noticed a small gain running around empty, 1 maybe 2 mpg. I noticed a bigger imrovement pulling, maybe 3-4. But the motor has broke in some through all of this also so it is hard to say, most are getting 2-3 from what I have read.
