 This question was part of another thread on this board. I’ve moved it out here because I’m getting pretty concerned about the Bully Dog turbo-to-tail exhaust system I installed on my truck Friday.

I have an auto transmission, and the new downpipe is resting directly against one of the trans cooler lines. It doesn’t look to me like there is much room to rearrange things to give it clearance, and I really don’t want to mess with, or mess up, my brand-new trans lines!

And I'm not the only one this has happened to... another member has contacted me with the same recent experience with the Bully Dog. He's trying to figure out what to do, too.

My question is this: anybody with auto trans and a 4” exhaust had this experience? If you have, how did you get the clearance? And just how much clearance is neccessary here?

If you have a 4” system and auto transmission that has good clearance between the pipe and the trans line, what brand system is it?

EMDDIESEL told me tonight that his Jannetty system clears fine. Anybody else want to weigh in on this?

I hate to think this, but if I can’t get this better, I may be taking this Bully Dog system off, and I'd hate to give up the definite performance gain and the sound! The sound has gone from trumpet to trombone!!!

Thanks for the help!

Kodiak,

I have the DD 4" exhaust and the closest in comes to a transmission line is 3". This is on a 99 3500, automatic. Your pipe must really curve in towards the line to be that close. And then I assume it curves back to the outside to mount in the stock location, or do the hangers keep the pipe in that far all the way back and then curve to the outside again to get it over the axle?

Good luck.

I don't have the problem with my Banks exhaust, but I sure wouldn't want it. You could always replace your transmission line with hydraulic hose, it will hold up fine and can be routed where you want it easily.

Have you called BullyDog about it? They may have a very simple solution to this problem. A friend has a Banks system on a 98. 5... no clearance problems.

Thanks all. It appears that other manufacturers aren't having this problem, and thanks to the reports you have given me, I can tell Bully Dog that something could be amiss with their downpipe angle. For the record, I'll post their reply on this thread.
