Install a remote start on my 06. I have the security key ,and want to know what I need to install oem remote start ( part#s ect... ) or a system that is easy to install. .

Any help will be greatly appreciated. .

You'll need a remote starter with a delay timer (which most major brands have Crimestopper, Codealarm, Ultrastart... ... . ) due to the fact these trucks don't have a "wait to start wire". You can solder the "glow plug" wire directly to the gauge cluster but I don't recommend that. You'll need a security bypass kit that is specifically programmed for your year truck to take care of the security key. The security bypass will also do the power locks. The only other thing I recommend is a wiring diagram (which I can probably send you) that gives the wire color\polarity\location. I also recommend a "2-Way" remote starter. They cost a little more but the remote tells you if your in range and if the truck is running and if the doors are locked, which is great if you can't see the truck (i. e. in a restaurant)

p. m. if you have any questions.

Whiskey,

I recommend reviewing the pertinent section of your factory owner's manual before you purchase a remote start. I think the owner's manual specifically warns against installation of a remote start because of the security key.

my friend has a remote start on his 06' mega cab with an auto trans. it is from the factory, i'm sure cause it has a dodge logo on it. i'll look into it and reply later.

I just had a Compustar Pro P2W9000FMR intalled in my truck a week ago by a local installation shop. It works great and has excellent range. It also has a lot of cool features like an alarm clock start (starts my truck at 6:30 am every morning), turbo cool down timer, and cold temperature start (starts my truck when interior cab temperature goes below 15 degrees F). My favorite feature is the auto unlock/lock (unlocks my truck when the 2-way remote is within 20 feet of my truck and locks when greater than 20 feet away). It makes it easy when my hands are full, otherwise you can just use the lock/unlock button on the remote.

The tech had no issues installing it but needed both keys when programming it. He told me that they simulated various starting conditions (ambiant temperatures) with a computer and found the right time delay to set it at. Supposedly, wiring the starter to the wait-to-start light is a big no-no (so I am told).

Anyway, I couldn't be happier. There's nothing better than climbing into a warm truck on a cold winter morning. It cost me $475 ($550 cdn) installed.
