I can use a 285/75-16E tire (3750lb each) on the rear of my truck. Problem: This tire wants a 7. 5-9" wide rim on a wheel rated for at least 3750 lb. I can find 8 on 6. 5" wheels with 8 to 10" wide rims. But the !@#$ things are rated for anywhere from 2200 to 3000lbs. The closest I've come so far is that U. S. Wheel has a trailer wheel rate for 3750, but it's only 7" wide, it's alloy and costs about $150.

I've called Motor Wheel (OEM) JEGS. Summit, tire dealers, Goodrich and nobody seems to have a clue.

Goodrich, Goodyear and others make this size tire. They don't seem to have any idea what it might fit, i. e. , no idea where to get a wheel.

Now, it it fits anything it should go on a 1T SRW truck. Dodge, Ford and Chevy have all used the 8 on 6. 5 pattern.

So who has a wheel that will work?

Yes That's the reason 285/75 Load Range E's were not even avail till recently. There weren't any wheels wide enough to support that weight. I think most people are just running these new tires with higher load rating on cheap wheels, as they really ARE better than an equivalent load range D tire.

I've noticed the same thing. You don't say what type of wheel your looking for, but if you want a plain steelie look at Ford vans. I've seen several sets of oem 16 x 8 grey steelies for them in the old 8 on 6. 5 pattern. They fit the dodges and if I remember correctly will fit dodge hubcaps. If your after aluminum, look for forged wheels like Alcoa's. They are more expensive, but they usually rate higher. Hope this helps. I'm lucky the wife's 01 has factory 8 inch alloys. I'm facing the same problem for my crew repower as I want to run same size on it, but the 01 wheels hit the tie rod ends on a 1st gen.

I want steel. This a a work truck. I'll start looking for the Ford van stuff. I've been wondering if there wasn't a Ford or GM application that would work, but Motor Wheel (who provide OEM for all of the big three) doesn't list anything wider than a 6 so I wasn't sure that there was any wider OEM.

It sounds like you have already bought your tires, but have you looked into 19. 5s? They have the heavier load rating, and from what I have heard, last a LOT longer than 16s. If they'd fit under my front wheel wells, I'd get some for my 2wd.

I have not bought tires. I'm familiar with 19. 5s and have had them on a couple of P-30s in the past. I've considered them, but they start at 5000lbs per tire, MUCH stiffer carcass and thus ride, wheels are about $200 each, tires are about $300 each, can't get them with a mud tread. The 16s would actually work better for what I do with the truck because of mud tread available and better ride.

Accuride does indeed list only a 7" wide rim and the wheel is rated for 3045lbs. Another nonstarter.

There were optional 16x8 silver/grey steelies on some E250 Fords. I had one for a spare for a while. Check salvage yards and E-bay. You will find a lot of 7's before you find the 8's. They are out there, just watch out for the new metric pattern wheels.

Don't know about the E350's, but as for the weight rating I haven't noticed any difference between any 3/4 or 1 ton wheel that was a true(8-lug) 3/4 ton or srw 1-ton. I seriously doubt the factory would bother with two identical wheels with different load ratings. Of course, I try not to pay that much attention to Fords, period. I was only speaking from my limited experience. The wheel I had came off an E250. I took the wheel/tire off the spare rack, because it was easy to grab and the yard did not have a dodge wheel at the time. I got rid of it because I got a matching dodge wheel later, but now am considering finding a full set for my crew.

I haven't seen any differences between 3/4T and 1T SRW wheels either. Both have been rated at 3045lbs per wheel for the ones I've seen.
