Help!! I have an electrical short which drains both batteries over night. It goes away when I pull the I. O. D. fuse. What is the I. O. D. and where is it?? This is my first diesel (2000 RAM 3500) Thanks for any help I can get.

I. O. D. stand for ignition off draw. It is a circuit not a part. I. O. D. feeds the dome lights, glove box light, radio memory, anything that normally has power when the key is off.

Oh nooooo Illflem... not the IOD again!! :D I still get PM's about SCTM's. I got mine "fixed" but to this day think the solenoids are bad as they measure 45. 5 OHM when the should be between 50-60. Thats the only thing left. If I ever run across some new ones I'll grab them. That SCTM on 99's is really a double edge knife for sure.

Anyway... the 2000's may have done away with the SCTM's. At some point there after the 99's, they went with a mechanical retractor design again to get away from SCTM's. I do know the 02's didn't have them.

I cant even upgrade to the new style retractors as the the 99 airbag module needs the 3V signal from the SCTM or it will set faults. Chrysler wont even discuss changing the safety system with me.

If you do have a SCTM I'd suspect it in a second. The SCTM is a device that controls the solenoids in the quad cab seatbelt retractors. Basically tells them when to lockup and not lockup. After 30 min it should disable. If it dont the retractor solenoids keep pullin about 0. 5 amps till the batts are dead.
