Simple Electronics Question

I got off work around 2300 and headed home. I got onto 99W going about 60 mph, speed limit is 55 on this two lane road. Up the road from me was a car on the shoulder with his hazzards on. He was on the opposite side of the road to me. A car was coming my direction, and we were going to meet right where the "broken down" car is.

My vision was being hampered by the oncoming car's headlights. I slow down to about 45 as I approach the cars. I meet the oncoming car right where the other car was at. We pass each other and I get away from his headlights and low and behold here is some DA standing right in front of me. :--) I did not have time to react at all, he just appeared out of nowhere.

There is a vineyard at the edge of the highway and this joker was stealing grapes. He had his shirt pulled out and had a lot of grapes in the shirt. He was standing in my lane waiting for the other car to pass then he was going to walk to his car.

I slammed on my brakes and stopped. It was pitch black out and no one around, the other car did not even stop. I am sitting there listening to the Cummins and my heart beat. There are grapes splatered across the windshield. I did not want to get out because I was afraid to see what I thought I would. I did get out and was shaking something bad. I looked back and there was this DumbA$$ going back to get more grapes, somehow I missed him. Only thing is now I want to beat the living He!! out of him. I walk up to him and he looks over and says, "Sorry I did not see you coming. " He is drunk and I told him to keep picking the grapes I was going to call the law. Just my luck no cell phone service, and this guy drove off.

Now how can someone miss a 3500 all lit up when it is pitch black out. He came sooo close to going to the big vineyard in the sky. I am still shaking over this.

Had just about the same thing happen to me and the wife a few years ago.

The only thing different was we could smell his shorts as we went by.

September '78, Torrejon, Spain (just west of Madrid). I was driving my (at the time) '65 Impala Super Sport. A guy was crossing the road. To his immediate right (east) was a box-van type truck. I was heading west toward the van's passenger door - the pedestrian stepped off the curb, hidden by the van's driver's side - right directly in front of me. He slid up the hood of my SS. His leg dented the metal above the left headlights and his elbow cracked the lower left corner of the windshield. Our eyes met just before I hit him - the only look on his face was "OH $%#@%$##". He lived. It broke his right leg, scratches all over him.

August '88, Naples, Italy. I was driving a gutless office Fiat Van (push on the go-juice and instead of saying "Who, Me??", would say instead, "Up Yours"). I left the NATO base heading east. There was a 20 or 30 foot wall on my left. A small suburb on my right. Coming toward me were three cars and two mopeds wanting to turn left into the suburb area. The three cars and one moped waited. The second one didn't. A 14-year-old boy, no helmet, no license, no insurance, alone on daddy's moped turned directly in front of me and was plastered on the front of the van. His moped went sliding down the road in front of me. He lived. His face was on the windshield about a foot from my face.

I still see their faces immediately before or during impact. I thank God Above that I didn't kill either of them. It's extremely scary wondering if the person laying on the road in front of your car is about to die.

I'm truly glad for you that you didn't hit him.
