Competition Outa state or local? Help please

Competition 2005 Dodge Dyno numbers

... for Diesel Truckfest next weekend. Went out to the Mopar Mile High Nationals. I have been many years ago and I knew it was outragous but JFC, if you have never seen top fuel or funny car, you have no idea what it's about. They make 1500hp pro stock cars seem as if they are mundane mopeds lol. What a blast. My ears are ringing, my eyes are burning, and I have little black burnt rubber spots all over me. If you've never seen them, go check it out. You'll never forget it.

Where were you mostly watching them from? The starting line or the top end? Watching them launch is cool but at the top end is where it's at 7000+ hp screaming @ 320mph is like no other sound on this planet ever!! Oo.

Was at Kent a few years ago, got to stand behind the stage area on Sat & hospitality tent at finish line on Sun. JUST BLOODY AWSOME. Awful wy to title a thread, I pictured someone on a mountain bike with one broken pedal

The last time I was at our local track one of the two top fuel funny cars in the state came out of its truck to make a quick pass for test and tune. That was the freaking loudest thing I have ever heard. And it was insanly fast. That thing launched and shut down and stll did a 9. x. I have to make a point of going out and seeing it make a full pass.

A T/F rail or funny car is the LOUDEST noise I have ever heard. Hands down. It's a low pitched drone that goes right through you. The tone gets lower as the car goes faster. I could watch them run for hours on end.

It's crazy that a 500 c. i engine can generate that kind of noise.

It's also the most VIOLENT engine I have ever seen.

If it wasn't for Chrysler Corporation, there wouldn't be a T/F or F/C engine that can make that kind of power and stay together. Think a BB Ford or BB GM would? :D

Other than the conceptual design of the head, I'm not sure those motors have much in common with a Chrysler Hemi :)

Think about the old model airplane engines that you used to run 10% nitro in. Now multiply their size by what a few thousand CC's and make it 90% nitro. The word "violent" does not do justice to an accurate description lol.

If he thinks that fuel cars are the "bomb" now then I'd bet after they ran he left the track area and wandered around and missed the best show at a NHRA/IHRA event. Fuel cars, while at times can be a handful if not prepared correctly, have pretty much become smooth running operations. Now I do realize of course that they do have the occasional boomer, but, not like they used to.

Now,Top Alcohol Funny Car on the other hand is a event that bears staying at your seat and keep your eyes on whats happening. While nearly as powerful as their nitro fueled big brothers, they are more of a handful to drive at times. Smaller rear spoilers with no wickerbills, leaving the line with the motor at full song(they generally leave at or near 9,000rpm) and the most violent tire shake of any of the catagories can produce some of the most enjoyable rides for spectators to watch. When a TAFC leaves the line the driver has his hands full from the time the loud pedal is stomped until he lays out the laundry. These cars are about a close to being on the ragged edge as anything in professional motorosports today. When they make a full throttle pass they are things of beauty however get one rattling the tires early and the game is on. I've seen them sideways far enough to actually be laying on the header pipes,on one rear tire and the wheelie bar and able to rattle the hides so hard the chutes deploy themselves. At Cecil County a few years ago at one of the Divisional events I seen Bob Sweet(Former driver of the last version of the "Boston Strangler") have his car so crossed up he rode thru the lights sideways. He actually later in the weekend did it a second time to which has him retired as he couldn't save it and he hit the wall so hard the hat of the supercharger landed between the back rows of car trailers near the woods.

Yep,fuel cars and prostockers are ok,but, you will need a really big crane to get me out of the stands when TAFC/TAD,Competition Eliminator,Stock and Superstock run. They are what the show is all about and where the real racers are... ..... Andy

Bah I'm just a fan and from a fan's perspective, TF is where the show is. I couldn't give a rat's arse about the other classes not that I don't think it's a challenge and they aren't competitors but... as an example, they had some stupid deal going on where these 9 sec gasser rails were racing all day to a 9 something dial time. It was the lamest thing I have ever seen. They would dog it off the line and then roll into it down the track trying to hit that time on the board. What a freaking bore that was. It's a show so put the freaking hammer down and go! I don't really care about drag racing as a sport. I do enjoy it as a show at least fuel cars. The rest are snoozers lol.
