water in oil 1/2 gal 80mils ordered the parts pulled the head with a cable puller cleaned and cleaned installed new gasket why I didn't check the head with a staight edge I don't know I got in a hurry and now I will most likely be pulling it again  now that I have to cheak it and hopfully only machine it I will also do some other mods wile its off .

heavy valve springs, thinner carbon dams, porting if I find a place to do it. my goal is about 500hp for this truck and find another for winter etc like a 1st gen 4x4 to drive on nasty days. Is there anything else that you would do wile the head is off? anything? I dont know if they do o-ringing in this area but I my save that step for when I freshen up the bottem end at a later date

DJ If going for 500hp get it O-ringed. A high-mile 12v head will almost certainly be warped, 12v heads are much more warp prone than 24v heads. Mine needed decked . 010" when I had it off at 355k, then they had to take . 004" off it again when I pulled it 35,000 miles later.

I would get a valve job for sure if you haven't, mine needed it. But make sure you get a good shop, the shop I went to the first time mucked up one of the seats.

How much crosshatch do you have left on yours? This is what mine looked like at 386k (the funny marks are from water pitting when the HG was bad the first time).
