Really, I dumped smoke all over him. It was a yuppie putz, as they usually are. I was in front of him in the inside L/hand turn lane. When we turned he switched lanes to try and shoot past me and pull in ahead of me. I thought, "Not going to happen on my watch. " so I mashed the pedal, at low boost, smoked him, and closed his passing gap. Unfortunately, traffic in my lane slowed and he was able to get past. We both made it to the next light, which is right before it hits freeway. He had an open lane and I had a POS car in front of me. When the light turned green he hammered it. I had to wait to get over to his lane before I could get on it. I guess I took it up to about 70, he, on the other hand, kept on it to probably over 100. Where's a cop when you need one?:D I guess that guy really showed me. Mess with a Porsche, will ya?

What sucked for me was that I had 6 people in the truck, my 2 kids, wife, mom (yes mom) and brother. My wife was giving me the "You're going to kill your family" speech, so I had to play it safe. :-{} I hope I see that guy again before I leave here.

You can go one better...

Next time, make sure he's driving a convertible, with the top down... . works like a charm every time :D :D - the ultimate, perfect attitude bypass!!

No way

C'mon guys. There's NO way you could smoke a Porsche with a heavy beast like the CTD.

No matter how much BOMBed your baby is. Believe me, been there, tried that, other than sooting 'em a little not much to play with 'em...

:D

I smoked a bunch of cyclists a few weeks ago. They were taking up one lane of traffic on a main road, and they thought they owned that lane. I got in front of them, hit the pedal, and they were lost in a cloud of black smoke (it really was one of my better clouds :D ) My wife was with me, and she was watching as the black cloud came out of the tailpipe. She was still complaining about the cyclists a mile or two down the road. She didnt say anything about what I did to them which suprised the (you know what) out of me.

Be Careful

You know it's fun to do this to these folks - but maybe we're just playing into their hands. What I mean is that you don't have many "6 pack" blue collar diesel owners- riding bikes in their little skin tights, aero helmets etc. What we have are often well-heeled, attorneys, folks who simply can't get into most rooms because their heads are to big - and that are only looking for examples like this so they can start more legislation getting after us. But for the short term it's fun - but we may win the battle and loose the war.

JConley,

Being that you're in Austin, if any of those cyclists are "tree-hugging lawyers", you might be looking for a letter from the following:

http://www.tnrcc.state.tx.us/air/ms/smokingvehicles.html

As far as the 10 second smoke duration mentioned above is concerned, they can say they saw it for whatever length of time they want.

Good luck! ;)

They couldnt see my plate through the smoke. I dont think the stake knows that CTD owners consider getting one of these letters an achievement to be showed off :p :p

LOL my wife hates to drive with me, she always tells me to grow up. "But honey he thought his duramax was going to beat me" guess what WRONG! It was very fun, the poor lad didnt even have his plates yet. :D

More Cycling!!

Oh, by the way, whenever I ride a public road, I always try to stay as far right as I can get, given that I can stay on a good surface. Tires running at 145 PSI don't care much for lousy shoulders!

Jakebud:

Most of the cyclist here in the Austin area are like you and stay to the right. These guy I always give as much room as possible. Then you have the butt heads that ride in groops that think they own the road. They will ride line a breast at slow speed shooting the bull and just having a merry time, there definitely not training.

The roads here in the Texas hillcountry are twisty and narrow, when you top a hill and are confronted with a group of cyclist in the road with oncoming traffic things can get exciting, if you know what I mean!

Marco,

I'll agree that 99% of us could not smoke a Boxter in a drag race, but there are definately a few out there who could.

One of my co-workers has a Boxter, and while it's a pretty neat little car, it is actually sort of doggy in the acceleration department. Relying solely on my SOP meter, I'd say a Boxter would just barely be able to get into the 14's in the 1/4 mile. My buddy who owns the car says Porsche now has a Boxter-S that is a good bit quicker than his though.

The other day, we were going to lunch, and I was riding with another buddy who has a '98 BMW M3, we lined up at a red light with the guy in the Boxter, and just plain blew his doors off... there were three of us in the Beemer too.

I have to agree with you in that unfortunately there are many cyclists out there that don't ride very intelligently. There might be a few of us that seem to think they can take up as much of the road as they like, with as big of a groups as they are in, and that is so far from true. The real down side is that when that happens, the folks in vehicles get ****** and consequently don't respect our right to be out there, so nobody wins. Just like that group out in San Francisco (name escapes me) that gets together in the name of 'cyclists rights" and clogs up numerous streets. That crap is worthless. My other peeve: those with music in their ears that prevents them from hearing what is going on around them!!!

Jakebud,

You're not the only one, but there are few of us.

I loved the previous comment about the cyclist acting like he owned the road. I got to compare it to another TDR member's efforts to keep another vehicle from legally passing - acting like he owns the road! We expect the cyclist to ride with respect for traffic, but it seems that too many drivers don't have that same attitude about themselves.

I have a friend who was riding with me on the shoulder, single file, and a pickup tried to buzz us. He did a very good job and broke my friend's femur (compound fracture) and left us in the ditch. He was caught and prosecuted.

I have only intentionally "smoked" one motorcyle guy... . it was because it was an idiot. I was sitting at a redlight (2nd out) and the light just turns green... ... ... zoom..... a motorcycle zips by me and the car ahead of me through the left hand turn lane whioch ended!..... so less then 1/2 mile up the road... he slowed down to turn right..... I only had time to turn the comp on level II so it wasn't as good as it could have been. But I let off the throttle... then floored it.

If he hadn't been stupid I wouldn't have done it.

I haven't smoked a cyclist (yet) but am guilty of severely smoking a pedestrian. Going over a blind hill, 2 lane country road, no shoulders - theres a pick-up stopped in my lane just over the crest of the hill and a guy standing next to the driver's side window talking to the driver, actually standing in the opposite lane. I slammed on the brakes to avoid rear-ending them and waited a few seconds for the truck to move on. Wrong, the guy standing just looks at me and continues to talk to the driver. Well it only took about 10 more seconds and I was ticked. So in the very best David Copperfield style, I made them both disappear :D
