I swear these doctors are trying to kill me!

This is driving me nuts! I thought everything was all lined up. Saw my personal physician last thursday and the gi specialist on friday. The plan was for me to take 3-325mg iron tablets each day to build up the iron in my blood. On monday or tuesday getting a blood test to see if my hemogloben count is high enough for the surgery. If not they were going to transfuse and then have the surgery on friday (the 19th). I got a call from my doctors office yesterday that they want me to come in today and get a blood test to see how things are coming along. So I go in today and the nurse tells me that my doctor is extremely concerned and the reason for this blood test is to see if my blood count is going up at all. If it isn't going up then he isn't going to sign off on the surgery for next week! Grrrrrrrrrr! I'll then have to see a hemotist (sp?) before we can go further. I wish she hadn't have said anything to me about it.



My wife was at the doctors office today for herself and the doctor told her about his concerns and she told him that I'd be crushed if we have to put the surgery off. He said he understood and is glad that he's not in my shoes. !@#$%^&^$%!* I can't wait for this whole freakin' mess to be behind me. So, another night of worrying about tomorrow's test result and the surgery date being up in the air again . I'm trying hard to stay positive but damn it's hard.

This reminds me of the truck that wasn't much to look at, kind of an old beat up wreck, patched together all over, that had 250,000 hard, abusive, miles on it, and was scheduled to have the KDP jigged. One week before that, POW!!!!It happen... ... . :--)-_



... ... ... ... . maybe thats not such a good anecdotal story right now... ?

I know how you feel, but if your count is low you'll have more trouble after the surgery then just waiting. If you want, I'll help with the surgery, I stayed at a Holiday Inn.

little off subject but

When I had my wreck in 98 and the surgery that followed dealing with the insurance company was a pain in the a**. Well not for me but the wife. Thats the first time in our 30 going on 31 yrs of marriage I heard here say some things she normally does not. Arguing with them over why this bill was not payed,why only this amount,then going back to the doctors and having them to send letters explaining things,etc,etc just about got to here. I remember back when my kids were born there was no questions asked about anything. But insurance companies are changing now days. The surgery is not that much its just all the bull you have to go thru before it.

Great news! Hemoglobin count went from 9. 2 last wednesday to 10. 7 yesterday so the surgery is still on for the 19th. Don't know yet whether or not they'll transfuse still but at least it's still on! I wonder what the next bomb is that they're gonna drop?

If your iron count gets any higher, you can drive the TSA people nuts at the airport when you go through the metal detector. Oo.

Good to hear that your hemoglobin went up. A low count can be very serious, and your Dr. did his job in waiting for it to rise. Keep popping those pills, and eat lots of liver and red meat before the 19th.



You should not have mentioned or said anything about what the next bomb might be. If you haven't had surgery before, this is what you can expect. Walking around with some light blue surgery socks, and wearing an air conditioned gown waiting for your number to be called. If it's day surgery once your awake and functioning you can go home and recover. If it's a few days in the hospital you can forget about any sleep, and eating anything good until you get home. The hot, and good looking nurses you see on t. v. are only on t. v. The nurses I had, could've played in the NFL, and one of my day nurses I think had been doing this since the Civil War. And people wonder why I left a day earlier than scheduled.

Let's hurry and put together a BOMB party for Steve's neck. We can put a bunch of rings around it or something, like how the jungle women do it. That ought to hold him over until the surgery happens.
