I think block heater is no good anymore. I measured the resistance today. Meter set at 20k the reading was at 0. 01 cold.
If sounds to be bad. How much is a new one gonna set me back $$$.

Jeff, check the cord first, these type of heat elements don't go out much as long as they operate under water. The cord on my '95s unplugs from the element,I'll bet yours has just come unplugged or is damaged.

Jeff I thought the same about my heater in the fall this year and all that was wrong was the outside connector had lost it's connection. I cut the wire and got a HD outside plug end and it has work as good as new since.

Take an ohm-meter and look for a short across the two flat male spade plugs on the cord. If you don't see a real solid short, then something is open. This means it doesn't work. Then unplug the cord from the heater at the block and short the female plugs together with a piece of wire. If you then see a solid short when re-testing as before, your block heater is burned out. This tests the continuity of you cord. Good luck, Herb

Jeff, as with any element, the resistance through the heater element IS very low. An OPEN would probably be the most likely symptom of a burned out element. What you may have is the wires may be broken and just happen to make contact when you handle it to ohm it out, or they may be only hanging by a couple of strands and won't carry the current to heat the element. Does you plug, or anywhere around it feel warm after being plugged in awhile?

I would check the plug as well. I speak from exp. I purchased a new heating element a few years back for my 96. It was the plug. However if the element is bad I have one for you real cheap.

I'll get to it Friday. Were in a winter strom now. Temps aren't gonna be that cold either. Last week it started at 18 below and was plugged in. I knew right away block heater was no good.
Thank guys.

Jeff"
See where your heater went South. Well, I ain't seen it and since all things good are in the South it must be OK. Really check the plug. Those formed type do come apart inside on their on. .
