I think I bought myself my first carry weapon tonight :) Was going to buy a Kimber pro Carry II but once I got it equipped the way I wanted it was out of my price range. Tonight I looked at and made an agreement on a Springfield Champion . 45, 4" barrel full stainless.

here's some info

Next one will be a kimber, I just had to share my happy news with the rest of the gun toting TDR readers :)

That the other one I was looking at, but by the time I got night sites and all on the stainless frame it was out of reach for me right now, I got the SA for $690! :)

Those newer springfields are nice. You should've held out for the Kimber. You could come pick up my aluminum cans. I have a garbage can almost 3/4 full :).

"You can't go wrong with Springfield. " Big ditto on that. When I first looked at the picture of your new Springfield I thought it was a Kimber. Very nice pistol. Would love to "fondle" it.

My "truck gun" is a good old plain vanilla (well almost) Springfield 1911 A1. My carry gun is a Kimber Compact Stainless which I bought used but in excellent shape 4 years ago for under 500 bucks. Such a deal. Currently I am lusting after a Springfield XD in . 357 Sig cal. This gun stuff is about as addicting as bombing.

Springfield made a good gun years ago, and since have gotten better. I went for the Kimber UltraCarry, 3" barrel and a full 8 rds. I can almost slip it in the front pocket on jeans. Very concealable. No more recoil than my Colt 5" Govt. model. And I didn't have to do any accurizing or trigger work.

Good Purchase!

Kimbers are nice.

I wanted a Kimber Tactical Pro but I got a good deal(half the price) on this Springfield Champion and I like the Novak night sights better:

I am going to refinish it to clone this:

I was talking to a gunsmith the other day and he feels that Kimber's quality is starting to drop. The frames and slides are OK it's the parts that go into them:( Seems like the are going the way of Colt in the 80's and 90's. From what I have seen of Colt lately they are turning out a fine 1911.

That is a beautiful piece.

I kinda like my ole Browning 9mm for a "pretty" gun but my favorite carry weapon is the old "plastic" Glock -

You can't go wrong with the newer Springfields. I am a Kimber Tactical man myself but have been looking at the Springfields---can't ever have too many 1911's.

"What is the reason for carring a hand gun in your truck?"

---because you never know what is going to happen. I have carried a 1911 in my truck for about 10 years and it has prevented two big potential problems and I don't live in typical problematic areas.

GrandCreek,

"What is the reason for carrying a gun in your truck? Is it that unsafe down there?"

Unsafe enough to feel better with a Guvmint Model . 45 in the truck console. You betcha. Drugs, drugs, drugs.

The more drugs the more theft to feed the habit and the more APD (Antisocial Personality Disorder - DSM IV Axis II) behavior, a good example of which is breaking the law.

As an aside, DSM-IV is the psychiatric diagnostic classification scheme. Axis I is psychosis, i. e. , schizophrenia, etc. Axis II includes APD. There has NEVER been a study anywhere, any time that has demonstrated that Axis II stuff is treatable with medications. And there have certainly been plenty of scientific studies done about it. So what's left? Behavior Modification? Maybe, but compliance is the big stumbling block there.

The county jail here is over capacity with about 1600 inmates, a high percentage of whom are repeat offenders held for drug related charges. The number of druggies incarcerated represents only the tip of the iceberg of their ilk in the community. Could the sheriff clean them out? Sure. Will the judges back him up? No way. Remember the infamous Judge Harry Rapkin (Thanks, O'Reilly) and the Carly Brucia murder case? Rapkin's revolving door MO is too common among other judges around here, although they seem to have their robes between their legs now because they saw what happened to Rapkin.

Bottom line - yes, lots of crime; not real safe. First rule of a gunfight, "Have a Gun". Second, "Avoid it if You Can. " - I suppose that would mean WOT and lotsa black smoke. :D

BTW, having a gun at hand did save my a$$ one time. Once was enough to make me a believer.

The springfields are great guns!

I just picked up a Springfield Trophy Match, barely used, from my brother in law (paid so little I stole it from him). I can't believe how nice this shoots compared to my other pistols. It is accurate and reliable, and my favorite firearm... ... ..... well ok, one of the top 3 :)

My truck/hunting pistol is a Springfield V16 longslide in 45 super. You made a good decision, a well built piece for the price.
