Picked it up Saturday. Problems found:
  1. Sticker in driver's door frame lists incorrect tire size.
  2. Clock set to the incorrect time.
    [/list=a]
Having too much fun driving it and adding mods to complete Fritz's New Vehicle Inspection Checklist.

My 2000 4x4 (stock with 265/75/16's) has the same incorrect tire size on the sticker. I haven't looked, but I wonder if they're all like that?

Yes, mine came with the michelin 265/75R16s but the sticker said 245s! ENJOY!!!

It's not so bad that the tire size is wrong, but the tire pressures are different for the 265 vs 245's.

Don't worry too much about the posted sticker for correct tire pressure. Examine the information on the tires. I noticed the same sticker on my 2001.

Follow the information below -

Formula for Correct Tire Pressures
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've been towing and hauling loads for years. I use the following formula for trailer and truck tires -
Formula = ( Axle Weight / # Tires ) / Tire Rating
x Max. Pressure Rating = Recommended Tire Pressure

( 4380 /2 ) / 3415 * 80 = 51. 3

I air the rear tires to 55 psi cold. Gives me +3. 7 lbs. for safety and pressure gauge +/- error.

The above numbers are generated from my Dodge Ram and Damon Magnum 5th wheel trailer. Truck tires are Michelin LT 265/75 R16 LTX M/S Load Range E.

Truck Rear Axle Weight = 4,380 lbs.
Tires = 2
Tire Max. Weight Rating = 3,415 lbs.
Tire Max. Pressure = 80
Suggested tire pressure = 51. 3

I contacted Michelin Customer Service and they verifed that this is correct and would also extend the life of the tires.

The result will be Cold Tire Pressure.

Glad to hear your truck has no problems. Mine is the same way. Be aware of little things. On mine for example, first thing I did on mine was check for the cap on the vent port of the gas tank. Sure enough, it was still on, so I pulled it off. Also during my first oil changed I had to torque most of the intercooler line clamps as all except one was loose. The rear brakes took 12 clicks each before they were properly set, although if yours is a 2001. 5, your discs won't need this. Have fun with it.

Thanks for the tire inflation tips. I may try to sumarize the formuala and post them on the door frame. Is is standard practice for manufactures to list standard tire specs. even when they sell optional tires? Sounds dumb to me. They'd be better off not listing anything than to list the wrong numbers.

I did find one more problem. Can drop the rear seat from the driver's side. I assume it's a mechanical adjustment, but haven't looked yet. First tank of fuel: 17:5 MPG including some towing of our trailer around town to get the hitch set up. Sweet!!!

klenger,

I saw this post days ago and meant to congratulate you too! It's great to know our trucks arrived at almost the same time, and now that I know what it feels like...

Cool! FYI, Danbury's nickname is 'Hat City' and is where Stetson is originally from. That's right, all those cowboy hats came from Connecticut!

Hi Matt,
Congrats on your rig. I am from just across the border. I'll be looking out for you.

I have 1/2 of tank gone and the computer says 13 mpg. I have made only one road trip, 60 miles at 70 mph. My tires were at 50 psi, now they are at 80 psi. I have no idea what fuel the dealer put in...

So is this a common problem? Is this in a FAQ? Does it mean when you fill up you run the risk of the tank burping diesel on you when it is full...

We hooked up our trailer (see sig) and drove from Denver to Glenwood Springs to help break in the engine, and to take a dip in the pool at Gleenwood Springs. The truck did well over two passes of about 11,000 feet. I used about 1/2 tank of fuel according the the fuel guage for a little over 200 miles. Click here to see truck and trailer. Click here to see me and the wife in the trailer. I am connected to the web using our laptop connected to my cellphone. I get a 19. 2 kb connection and it works pretty good. This could come in handy for getting assistance from the TDR forum while traveling. Have a nice weekend guys.

Kraut67M,

When you get your truck, no doubt we'll cross paths. I work at IBM in East Fishkill, so I'm just across the border most days.

klenger,
Great looking truck! I thought I did pretty good bringing the mileage up to 500+ since Wednesday night, but you really put that Cummins to work. I've been telling folks that I'm looking for things to tow, just to get the engine broken in.

I cannot believe how this truck climbs hills!

I hooked up my camper and took a 420 mile trip across the mountains of Colorado from Denver to Glenwood Springs for the weekend. 14 MPG, mostly towing. The real test for towing power is climbing to the Eisenhower tunel from the west side. It's a 2000' climb in about 7 miles, topping out at 11,000 feet. I made the pull all the way in 4th gear (5 speed) and maintained 65 MPH all the way up (except when traffic got in the way). I passed a lot of passenger vehicles on the way up.

At what point am I lugging the engine in 5th gear? I was able to drive from Glenwood Springs to Vail (2500' elevation gain in 60 miles) almost entirely in 5th gear. I only down shifted to 4th for some of the short hills.
