GV overdrive
Dieselman359,
I'll give a mixed review on the Gear Vendor. Mine was already installed when I bought the truck. The extra gears are great but there has been problems with the electronics that lock the GV out in reverse and 4x4. Fairly expensive parts and the truck now has a two speed switch on the shifter with the "safeties" disabled. Your 2 wheel drive would have one less lockout. While this GV has not broken, many have and my opinion is the the planetary gear/clutch system is not up to the torque of our CTD's. Depending on the condition of your Getrag, you might consider a NV4500 or 5600. If I remember correctly the Getrag has a . 77 ratio overdrive, the NV 5speed a . 74, and the 6speed a . 73. The sale of your good used Getrag would help finance a conversion. Of course a US gear overdrive is another option and is built much stronger than the GV and can be used with exhaust brake, in reverse, etc. HTH.
