Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) I think I killed my turbo...

I installed some stage 2 injectors over the weekend, and I was a little concerned that I was only getting 30 - 32 psi boost, so I started looking for a boost leak. I was getting ready to pull the boot off the turbo to intercooler, and when I pulled the intake hose off... OIL!!! :--)



The inside ring had a good smear, and long spray marks that went all the way out to the edge. The turbo shaft has a fair amount of play in it, and it does not seen to spin as freely as it used to.



I am hoping that the last "bark" may have pushed the oil past the bearing, and not caused any serious damage. The 'ol lady is going to kill me. :{



Anyone in the RMTDR have an extra HX35W laying around that I can borrow for a few months until I can afford to get my hybrid? I promise I'll keep the boost under 30, and no hot rodding. I'll even take off the Edge and put the OEM boost elbow on, keep the EGT's under 1100*, and never shut her down above 325*.

Is it possible to bolt up an HY35 to the ETH engine and have it function OK for a few months without any adverse side effects to the turbo or the engine?

I am still driving my truck. I fear the wrath of my wife if she asks me why I am not driving it more than the problem getting worse.



I elected to drive and keep the boost under 10 psi. Do you guys and gals have any idea how hard that is? Try it sometime. Man this sucks!

Sticks, did you find out if indeed the turbo is shot? Looks like Mike might let you borrow his stocker until your ready to make the buy for a hybrid. If it was a few months from now I would just ship you mine but I am not quite ready (no time ) to get into the turbo's (plural )

look in the classifieds for a used one , i seen one in there. If you want to play you got to pay! i just had mine replaced under warrenty last week.

Something to think about.

If the turbo is leaking to the compressor side and it amounts to much, there is a danger of engine runaway. Of course, if it was using that much oil, you would not still be driving it. Sorry for your troubles and good luck getting it fixed. I am still running my stocker with 159900+ on it and no problems yet.
