:{ Okay guys, I have read the threads on the pumps and just wondered when it might happen to me. Just started the truck and ran about 2 miles and started stumbling like it was bad fuel or if it had plugs, 3 of the 6 were mis-firing. No water in the filter. What is it VP44, lift pump? 110,000 mi. and never replaced.

How do I diagnose the problem without going to the dealer? :eek:

Of course, you have read all the related info here on TDR, and DO have guages installed to monitor fuel PSI, right? ;) :D

1693 is a companion code that means nothing alone. I've had that one ever since I learned how to check them. Fuel pressure may be it but if that is the problem I'm sure the VP will be right behind it. Check the APPS (throttle position sensor) sees to be a common one too.

Good luck.

My truck stumbled, as you said, when it threw a vehicle speed sensor code along with the 1693. I cleared the codes 20,000 miles ago and no problems since. And no nothing to repair.

Gauges were going to be a roundtuit. I know,I know, shoulda-woulda-coulda. To answer the question, NO :{

(SIGH!)

And we try SO hard to drive that point home to new members here...

(SIGH!)

Sure hope that "getaroundtoit" doesn't turn out to be a $2000 mistake... ;)

Good luck.

Disconnect both POSITIVE terminals and then turn the key on to make sure everything is drained properly. Leave it for at least an hour if not overnight and then reconnect. That should work.

Took it to the dealer this am and it is the transfer pump, $380. for the pump and $100. for the labor. I guess it is better than pushing. Somehow I do not think a transfer pump cost that much in the world other than the mopar world.

:--) I hope you are not gonna pay that kind of cabbage for the repair. Lp's are half the price at Cummins and you can do the job yourself in about 30min.

OUCH. Sorry for that man.

What a rip, that's obscene. I paid under $200 for my lift pump from Cummins. Haven't needed it yet though. I carry it around just in case.
