I keep telling myself I'm gonna buy a brand spankin' new 6. 7L (with a manual transmission of course) and leave the thing bone stock just to get me to work and back. If anything breaks, let it be Dodge's problem. I love tweaking my truck, and I wanna keep doing it, but there comes a point when you realize you're trying to squeeze every last drop of horsepower you can out of a decade and a half old truck, with 247k miles, and still think that its going to take you 16 miles to work and 16 miles home, through snow, cold, rain, and heat, without a single thing going wrong. ONLY... ONLY... ONLY time you'll hear of anything like that is among 1st gen owners. How many Mustange 5. 0 fanatics you see driving that car to work every day at 300+ horse. Never mind you don't see them for half the year while the salt and snow take their toll. And to top it all off, the mileage. I don't believe theres another type of passenger vehicle other than Dodge/Cummins trucks that people are hot rodding at anything over 150k miles. Just stop and think about that for a while.

mmhhmmmmm. you make an excelent point! i think you hit the nail on the head with that one.

Whats the difference between a 3rd gen owner and a 1st gen owner? When a 3rd gen owner sees a deer in the road he thinks "body work" and hits the brakes. When a first gen owner sees a deer in the road he thinks "dinner" and hits the gas.

AMEN! :-laf

PPeters- many of us have that and more. At least more than the 600, anyway. I believe most of us are under 300hp.

I have days I'm tired of my old pile (lately, every time I refuel:mad: ), but then I think, it's paid for, and if I put another 2 grand in it (needs paint), it'll be as cushy as the Dakota, have more power, and use the same or less fuel. I think I'll keep it til I can afford a 4x4.

I completely agree with Daniel-it's almost like a marriage, after awhile you just sort of take her for granted and it's nothing special. But, you spend a little $ on her, just do a couple upgrades or do a paint job, or some rims whatever, and once again the love will come back and the love affair switch will be back in the on position.

Now stop all the crazy talk Jay. Before I got rid of my ex i said a million times I was gonna take that crap anymore, and it took a looooong time but finally i did make the decision that it was time for her to go. But, that was something I really did want to happen, now how long would it take to make a decision like to happen (like getting rid of your sexy truck) that really you don't want to do? I promise you'll get rid of her and it will not take long, you'll be one sorry bugger. Besides, how cool can the dudes on the Toyoda forums really be? I just bought an axle from a guy off the classifieds and because he knew i needed it quick he shipped it before any kind of payment arrangements were made. I'll tell ya, this TDR group is like no other...

Cheers and may i add:

The grass is only greener until you get there ;)

DP... . I know, I'm just pullin' on J's leg. :) I struggled with exactly what is is going thru when my 92 started to lay down. I really looked hard at pulling the motor and having it rebuilt, pulling the transmission and having DTT work their magic and just hang on to the old girl a while longer. The reason I jumped was a fellow TDR'r who worked for Chrysler offered up his employee purchase number on the Pay it Forward forum and I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. 12K off of MSRP was too good for me to pass on to get exactly what I wanted. Balancing the dollars to get the 92 where I wanted it against the insurance payoff in case the unthinkable happened tipped the scale too. I was looking at 9 to 10K between the motor and transmission vs only 4K if it totalled. If I would not have got the emp discount I probably would still be driving the 92. She is still on the road, btw, local farmer running it. I've stopped him and asked how it was running, he's happy except for the front brakes and the transmission (auto)...

J... wish you luck with whatever you decide. The First Gen guys are still the best in my book.

Yea I know everything you guys said is true. But she is going to go some day soon. Yes the power is awsum, yes I get super fuel mileage. I am driving 23 miles each way (46 per day) and am using only between 9 and 10 gallons per week on winter mix. I've tracked usage for 4 weeks and it's very repeatable.

BUT... it's a slow drive, can't get fast enough for 5th lots of the time... LOL.

I do have fun smoking out tailgators and a holes several times a day. That's a bonus of course.

And I also have the dubious honor of having the ugliest beastiest truck (hood if hlaf bare rusty steel) in a parking lot of all professionals and engineers and no one parks too close for fear of needing a tetnus shot. That's the best part. :-laf:-laf

But when the next major happens... . it's history

can I have dibs on the 15. 6 rwhp? I need all the help I can get

Sure... I'll send it up in a standard business envelope, that ought to hold it, one without the little window... wouldn't want your neighbors to see the secret weapon. :-laf

My neighbor, (mom) laughs every time she hears me coming now. ;) See, I was born with the family deformity, my right leg is 2 inches longer than the left! :-laf :-laf
