I have a 98. 5 24 valve, I thought I had a clogged filter and changed it. Even filled canaster to top before cranking. Still would not start. Then I droped the canaster and had someone turn it over and not a drop of fuel came out with bottom of canaster removed. Shouldn't there be fuel pouring out? We then loosened 2 fuel lines and could not get it to pick up and send any fuel out. We checked fuses but no bad ones. Bad lift pump Right.

Please help

From what I've seen you have the classic signs of a dead lift pump. When I do a filter change it takes about 20 seconds for the pump to fill the canister and dump fuel out of the pressure gauge tap I have. You may want to double check and test for voltage at the pump harness to completely rule out an electrical problem.

Good luck-Zach

Zack,
What kind of tester? Will a voltage meeter like they have say at Wal Mart work? If so how much should it be getting? If it is a lift pump where is the least expencive place to get one. Truck has 102K on it so Warr. is not posible. I think I remember seeing some post on this a wile back.

Thanks for all the help in addvance.

Kent,

Using the search engine, put in "lift Pump" and search the 24V engine & drivetrain forum. I just did and there is a ton of info.

kent can your hear the pump running when you hit the key real quick ? if not then its the problem , but could be a blown fuse ? i'll lay odds on that lousy pump.

The pump is very quiet compared to what it used to be must be the pump.

The holly one that HVAC used on one of hes posts is it hard to change the truck over to this one? I searched last noght and read a little on it.

Thanks Kent

Going to try to get my dealer to change mine out tomorrow. I called and already found its covered by the 100K warrantee.

Can't wait to see if they agree mine is bad.
10 psi at idle, 8 going down the road, until you push the pedal hard, then it goes to 0.
Plus like you are seeing, its hell to get the filter filled after changing it.

Kent, sorry to leave you hanging, I was leaving as I finished the first post. I used a shadetree grade digital voltmeter to check mine and got 8. 70 volts after bumping the key, engine not running.

Now I am sure that it is the lift pump. I finally started thismorning and put a pressure on it and it will run but pressure never goes above 0. I don't see how it can even run at all.

I would still like to have more info on the holly pump.

Thanks to all for the help. You guys on this list have been a big help with my truck more than once.
