LP is dead...go figure! Suggestions?
Well, my LP is giving out on me. This is the second one since I bought the truck used in 11/02. I installed the first one in 45 min. This is how I found the symptoms.
I do not have a fuel pressure guage but check it regularly with a portable guage.
I usually start out in 2nd gear, even with my 3. 55s. The thing will pull and never stall, the ECM won't let it. The truck sputtered twice starting out in 2nd gear, and stalled on me in traffic yesterday. I tested the LP by bumping the ignition, it usually runs for 30 seconds to prime the system. Sometimes it would prime, sometimes it would not. I got it to prime many times so I drove it again. In traffic yesterday, after the stall, I limped it all the way home, hoping my VP would not die and leave me on the side of the road.
As I stepped on it, in 4th gear, with my FMS on 63% (maxed) fueling, the truck seemed to have puked and sputtered. Kind of like it has air in the lines, or the LP is stuck and the VP is pullin fuel/air past the LP vanes.
Since my truck is a 99, it doesn't show codes without a scanner and I have been leary of driving it out of the garage to Autozone to get codes checked.
Now, I am going to replace my LP, and will most likely do that before I check codes, just in case, and because I don't NEED my truck everyday like I used to.
I think I am going to get a stock LP, replace it in stock location, due to time/money constraints right now, and get my VP checked. If it checks ok then I am going to relocate my LP to the frame and look more into a FASS. I just don't have the $550 for a FASS right now. And if I need a VP, cross my fingers, I am thinking about a modified VP from Industrial Injection or Piers.
Now if I just had that motorcycle already I could have a second vehicle!
So, if you were in my shoes, what would you do for each pump, with limited funds, providing both scenarios of LP only, or LP/VP both needing replaced?
