Yep, looks like a bit of leakage. My plugs seem to have been sealed either with red RTV or loctite. You might try removing the plug (I don't think the coolant will drain... will it?), coating the threads with some red RTV, then re-installing.
I've had the same problem with one on the block. Just haven't gotten really motivated to do anything about it since my coolant level doesn't seem to have gone down. I'll try putting a little extra oomf on my plugs. I didn't even think of that, I was just going to drain down and reseal the plugs.
I think I gonna take it to dealrship and have them tighten them, I also noticed some gunk just inside radiator cap looks like wheel bearing grease. Not alot but about one fingertip full.
Dieselpilot why risk a visit to the dealer? I tightened mine and the pink crusty stuff pretty much disappeared. They were quite loose, but do not tighten them very tight, maybe 5-10ft/lbs or something like that.
dont know what the orangey stuff is it was there when they built the truck, was gonna change it out w/ 50/50 premix but i think I will get this documented at dealership 1st
Wonder if that could be a oil cooler starting to fail pilot? Inside of my radiator is still clean at 19300 miles Still next spring at around 26k I'll drain ,flush and refill with good ol' Prestone!!
Factory fill is Dexcool, which is red. At the 1 year mark I plan to flush the system and replace with Fleetguard premix (blue color!). I've seen that Dexcool literally turn into jelly.
Ok got the scoop, went to dallas dodge today and they will this saturday re-set the plugs and that the crud in the radiator is silicates gelled up and not a problem but they are gonna drain the system to reset the plugs (excellent)
if it is dexcool for sure, do not add green stuff or anything other than dexcool or water to the original... doing so can bugger up your water pump [i have first hand experience on a 1990 6. 2diesel] if you are going to swap, flush the system out very well with water.....
