Cheap High Idle Adjuster

It can be done one of two ways, I did it to my 96', and plan on doing it to my new truck as well. I have the same truck as you (more or less) so I will let you in on what I have come up with so far.

Cheapest option: Spacers under the factory coil spring. It will work but it will not last. It will eventually sag as the spring wears, and I've been told that it will effect the ride too. I can't remember the exact place on the Web I got the pricing from, but it was in the neighborhood of $100 for the spacers- installation not included  .

Best option: New front coils. This is what I did to my 96. I had it done at a professional suspension shop, the kind where $10K lifts are performed. The shop I had it done it is in bed with Fab-Tec, so I trusted their expertise and selection. I almost had custom coils made, but it was simply too much $$$$$$.

Instead, they experimented with a couple of different coils- and ended up installing Fabtec Coils that were an OEM replacement for a Ford F250. They lifted the front end up about 2. 25 inches, and after they finished settling in, ended up at about 1. 75 inches in raised hieght over stock. It rode pretty near level- empty or loaded (I had the rear spring packs redone as well).

Cost? About $425 installed (give or take- they also did shocks and this included necessary front end alignment). This method greatly IMPROVED the stock ride, and it looked nice. It doesn't come too cheap, but was worth it. There's just too much weight riding up front to mess around with coil spacers, IMHO.

The 3500's use a different spring, so they are researching what will work best and are going to get back to me. As far as going more than about 1. 75 inches- don't bother unless you have the $$$ to burn. You will have to replace the front arms and other components and it will be real expensive.

I have more info at work if you need it, including the sources of the components I spoke of. PM or email me if you need more info.

Cheers,

Kev

TQT,

I used the firestone air bags with individual schraders, to level the front and support the Reunel. I got about 1. 5 inches of lift and much better braking because of less nose dive. The bags were $70 from FleetPride.

One word of caution, before you unbolt the shocks from the front and let the front-end droop, move the ABS wires aside from the spindle. The great factory routing will pinch and cut them between the spinddles and spring bucket.
